husband was "drained" today

Hi all,

  Phil went in to be drained today. It was ultrasound guided, and they got about 1 1/2 qts of fluid off of his tummy. They took the fluid to test it, and his GI doctor told him everything looks good. His Sodium is holding steady, even with the increase of Aldactone, so things seem to be going well. He does transplant re-evaluation bloodwork the 18th of Oct. His MELD was 17 at evaluation, we'll see what it is in Oct.

I just wanted to update ya'all. I have been reading the posts . . wishing all of you the best!!

PA does not give you 3 points at every new MELD evaluation . Goes on actual MELD only. If it gets lower, it stays the same, but if it doesn't go up too bad, or good depending on how you look at it.

I'm sure That's why you do Connie ..they have special exceptions for certain things ... my husbands meld is 38 ....which 40 is the highest on the scale ....does anyone know if you can go over 40 .

That is about right CB after a paracentisis or drain. I lost about 10-12 pounds every time I had one. Now , he just has to stick to a strict low sodium diet, preferably 1000 mg's a day, no more than 1500 to keep it off. If he had edema in his legs they should be better or pain in his stomach should lessen. Limiting the water or fluid intake to 2 liters a day may help too. That is what I am doing now to keep my weight down under 190.

Al.is 39 but I asked doc and he said they do have people over 40 whom get transplants but are gravely ill ....as is my husband ....but he's doing pretty good at thus point being as high as it is ...but I will tell you this he was a 17 in early august..and now so high in September....it progressively rises quickly over a months period and watched him deteriorate so fast right in front my face ..
