I had a feeling you were talking about cellcept, but had to ask. Al is taking about the same doses I started on. They cut the cellcept out after 6 months. As far as the dreams/thoughts go, there were times when I knew things weren't real, but I couldn't ignore them. I still ask people who visited me about things that may or may not have happened. Some answers were shocking, but they were often tied to reality I had experienced. Like one night when I walked out by the nurses station and started taking my clothes off. I thought I was at a party when everyone was stripping, so I did too. The nurses had a big laugh with that one. At least they told me this wasn't an original move; lots of people have done the same.

Lol @ David ........my husband is kinda modest doesn't like nurses to bath him ....bed pan ect .......well he had to get over that but when I'm there I usually do it for him .....he usually is always cold ...well one night he strip off every blanket and hospital gown and was naked ........nurse tech came in and teased him ...hmmm boy why you naked......lol ...he said he got hot ....which is rare but afterwards he was embarrassed .......he is saying silly thing ....like he was having a baby boy ..i was oh no I don't think you are ....and if you were having a baby you better be having a girl ..since we already have two boys .........we were watching football today and he kept saying get sproles off my bed ..which is our teams player ...he kept hearing the name ..I was like hr is not on your bed ....its funny but not cause hes confused ..but it will get better

I'd rather smell, than have a sponge bath. I always feel dirtier after a "bath" in bed. I took a shower 8 days after my transplant (in the hospital). I convinced my docs that I could cover my incision and keep it dry and did. I had a friend buy a roll of plastic wrap and a garbage bag. Then I wrapped several layers around my torso and had my friend put the garbage bag over that. Taped off the bag and took a long shower. I had to sit down as my energy was minimal, but that was the best shower I've ever taken. And, there weren't any leaks, which made the nurses happy. MGH doesn't use stitches or staples for the skin, so I could shower without covering up a week later. I was very careful to pat down my incision and tried not to touch it. Paranoia mostly, though probably a good thing to learn. For a few months, if I rolled onto my right side, it felt like my new liver was going to fall out. My surgeon said he'd put it in nice and tight and it wasn't going anywhere. He was right.

Well the poor guy has been sick so long bed ridden since April and plus he had a wound vac for where a line was at in his upper leg got so infected they had to do surgery so no shower ..that wound is almost healed taking forever ..al has staples ...well if he refused baths I was like ok but at times he started to smell I was like your getting a sponge bath buddy ....

David, that's odd. I guess Mayo must use staples. I was told I would be taking a shower in hospital before being discharged home.

At MGH they stitch up the wound, but the top layer of skin is held together with a medical grade filament tape. The tape is an inch long, by about a quarter inch wide. They tape the incision and the tape strips are nearly touching one another. In about 3 weeks the tape begins to fall off. Using staples leaves a lot of scarring and then the staples still have to be removed later. My incision looks much cleaner than most others I've seen. On a transplant forum, people post their scars (usually called "Badges of Honor). Mine is posted and many have commented how neat the scar is.

Update doing dialysis another day before taking out the breathing tube to make sure they get toxins and fluid off of him

Elle, that's good!  He's making progress.

David, they used staples on my Mercedes cut that was done when they removed the right lobe...and yes, they left scars.  When they do transplant, they will go through the old incisions...and have a bit of trouble due to the mesh used in hernia repair and the scar tissue I currently have.

Yippee ..breathing tube is out still in icu if he does well all today they will move us back to transplant stepdown unit tomorrow.....he's a little paranoid and told me to get a wheel chair and get him out of here ......I took a picture of his scar and showed him ...you have new liver you just need to recover from surgery then we can go hhome ...he calmed down and is watching tv ..big :)

Fantastic, Elle!! Progressing nicely. Hope it's all uphill from here on out.

I keep thinking about that liver I had to pass on yesterday, hoping so much that someone else was able to get it.

Elle,

  Great news....We are thinking of you both.  Connie..it's only a matter of days and you'll get your liver, I bet.  We are excited for you.  We loved your post that even though you knew they might call in the next several months, you were taken by surprise.  Hubby asks me how all on the forum are doing, but still is resistant to talking about a possible transplant.  Best to you as you await that call.

Angie, they have deactivated me.  I have to complete the course of antibiotics (though it won't do any good as what I have is a virus that will have to clear up on its own) and then be tested and cleared before I'll be reactivated.  But maybe later this month I will again get a call.
