Hi
I was wondering if anyone could help or give any information as i am completely
at a loss.
We have jsut been told that my father has liver disease and althouth the doctor didnt say end stage.. he did say his liver is no longer functioning and it is a very serious condition that requires a liver transplant but unforunately he will not be considered for this.
He has lost a dramatic amount of weight although he has retained so much fluid in his abdomen..the doctors have given him doses of duiretics but to no avail, the fluid in his legs and abdomen is still there. They have twice tried to drain his abdomen without any success...they are quite reluctant to do this procedure as his blood is no longer clotting.
They have increased his dosage of duirectics and have told us that this may make him sleep for prolonged periods...(more than he already does). He hardly eats and is constipated...when he does manage to eat anything he feels sickly and has pain.
He has been told that not to eat salt again but to be honest his daily intake of food hardly contains any salt or other nutrients...
It seems like the doctors either have given up or they simply dont know what to do next...i asked the doctor if he carries on like this what will happen and he just said he will deteriorate..within a year...
Has anyone else been through this or can anyone help?
many thanks
