I have been diagnosed with Hep C Genotype-3 and Liver Cirrhosis. I got a blood transfusion 20 years before and I'm sure that I got Hep-C from there. I am on PegInterferon-alpha-2b + Ribavirin therapy since the last 30 weeks.

This therapy didn't responded well as the Viral Load became negative after 20 weeks of the therapy. It may be due to the fact that I'm having a low dose of pegIFN due to side effects. The recommended dose asccording to my weight is 120 micro gm but I'm receiving it as 80 micro gm.

I could not achieve RVR or EVR. The EVR achieved was partial with 4 log points reduction of viral load. My doctor says that I will likely to be a non responder but he still wants to continue the therapy with 72 weeks of treatment.

Please suggest if I should continue the therapy or discontinue it and wait for the new tri-therapy to arrive in India. The doctor say after 72 weeks of treatment the probability of achieving sustained virological response (SVR) is 30-40%.

Hi KK,

Welcome to HW. I'm sorry you have to be dealing with Hep C. The treatment can be rough. My partner was a non responder in 2003 with bad side effects.

He has had a transplant this year, but still will need to have a Hep C treatment, as Hep C is in the blood and is having a field day with his nice new liver!

I am not a physician and cannot make any recommendation about continuing or not continuing the treatment. Type 3 is usually more responsive than Mike's Genotype 1a. But I am not sure of the %ages or likelyhood of SVR with the long treatment. Mike went 26 weeks and we thought the treatment would kill him if continued.

We are hoping a new combo treatment thas does not use Interferon will become available for non responders, post transplant before it is too late for his new liver!
