Help figuring out dad

 My dad is 66 and has stage 4 pancratic cancer that spread to his liver. He was giving 3-6 month w Chemo, its been just over 6 now but the cancer in his liver has grown a lot. My question is after reading about everything i can online form the pancratic to the liver to kidney failure he seems to be at the end.. He starts Chemo at home for 24hr one day a week and at the hsopital for 2.5 hours, in the past few weeks hes been sleeping almost all day cauging, eating almost nothing but broth although he is getting solids down. He has problems breathing and he cant consentrate on anything. He is also very week. Theses have seem to be all signs that the end is near yet, he can still walk around and even gets dressed somedays although he doesnt do anythign, i dont know if hes doing it to try to be strong or how much time we might have left with him. I guess thats my question is based on what i have said how much time might he have left.. I know no one can say for sure but any help would be appraciated.. Thank you so much

Your Dad sounds like he's tried everything to get well, buy more time.

But bar his being well enough for a multiple multiple transplant, his days may be numbered.

Spend as much time with him as you can.

When he has exhausted all treatment options, think about palative care...hospice is your bet bet at this point...for him and for your family.

I have had liver cancer twice. Regular (systemic) chemo does not work for liver cancer. A liver tumor or tumors require targeted treatment, in the form of chemoembolization, radiofrequency ablation, or TheraSphere. All are done through a femoral artery entrance that is threaded up to the tumor itself and "zapped." This will either shrink or kill the tumors. If your papa has multiple liver tumors and they are large, he may not be a candidate for this treatment. Since these are targeted treatments, they should not interfere with the chemo he is receiving for his pancreatic cancer. At the very least, ask about chemoembolization. It is not hard on the body like regular chemo and is a one-time thing, although chemoembolization can be done multiple times, but 3-4 mos. apart.

Since your papa's liver cancer is a secondary cancer, they may feel it is more important to focus on the pancreatic cancer at this time. Still, it doesn't hurt to ask about chemoembolization.
