Hello everyone.  Hubby has gotten an oral herpes sore on his lip.  In the past, he has taken acyclovir (anti viral) pills to treat this.  We have sent an email to his GI to see if it is safe for him to take this, but I wanted to check in with all of you to see if anyone on the forum has taken it...or been told not to take it.

As always, all information and sharing of experience is appreciated and welcome.

I hope that everyone is hanging in there.

Heard back from the GI doctor this morning.  It is safe to take the anti-viral.  Also found good informatin on the FDA website late last night too.  Searching for drug counterindications for hepatic insufficiency.

Hi Emma,

Sorry I didn't see this earlier.  I've been on oral acyclovir for over 3 years and haven't had any problems with it.  I also find the Abreva helps a lot too!!

Also the vitamin lysine works wonders on cold sores ..it works miracles

Emma , My stepdaughter has had cold sores on occasion and my wife uses a prescription topical creme . The sore goes away in a couple days . I will call her later and find out what it is and post it .
This topic pretty much confirms what I have long suspected . Cooties can be transmitted even in your adult years . Geez !!!! A guy cant catch a break even we he gets older . tongue tongue

The cream we use is zoiverax, I think. With other problems was always afraid to take yet another pill.

THe pills hubby is taking is pill form zovirax.

And yes Rick, one can fall victim to cooties at any age. :)

David , I will have you know I was used as a experimental piglet , They inoculated me for Cooties on old man Ziffles farm . Haven't had a Cootie bug yet , My Cryptonite like inoculation spared me . The only catch to the injection is that it causes blindness ( Mr. Ziffle says it was gonna happen to me anyhow if I kept playing .......... ) . I figured I was gonna get something like arthritis from trying turn the pages of his playboy with my hooves . Go figure ?

Funny David!  I never heard that ending!  Unfortunately, there were no vaccinations for me to stop my cooties and they are actually common in the immunosuppressed.  We just pick them up more easily than the Average folk and not always by the more common means...

Arnold, maybe it's because you're not human that these innoculations worked for you tongue

90% of the population has the cooties dormAte ..only the unfortunate ones gets the pain and humiliating looks ....lol ......I fall being unfortunate:(
