Something's up with my liver

PBP. I don't want to harp on about this or in anyway be seen to be selling lyme but I feel its important you are aware of the possibility.

Although often considered a hard to catch, easy to treat disease originating from the US my understanding is that lyme has now been reported from all continents - hardly surprising when its primary vector is ticks which are often carried by birds which migrate! Secondly the fact that your symptoms started when you were 8 and continue to develop could well be indicative of long term late stage untreated lyme. You may or may not be aware of the controversy over lyme and the existance of 'chronic lyme disease' but I and thousands of others can assure you it does exist in the form of persistant infection.

The reason I responded to this thread was that prior to my lyme diagnosis I developed raised anti smooth muscle antibodies, often involved in AIH. I was referred to a number of rheumatologists who, whilst unwilling to give a clear diagnosis, came up with questionable undifferentiated connective tissue disorder. Other than my raised ASMA, I developed raised cholesterol and elevated ALT levels. I have also had periods of severe upper RHS abdominal pain in addition to whole host of symptoms ranging from swollen feet to rashes on my forearms and face initially thought to be lupus like. I have responded to 400mg/day of doxycyline for 3 months so far but it is very slow going. Have you benefited from the antibiotics at all?

I wouldnt rule out the possibility on the strength of the information you responded with and would check out the new to lyme symptoms list on the lyme forum.

My 36 year old daughter has tested positive for Lyme since highschool. She was dreadfully ill.

Like Morti 81 she has had all kinds of odd symptoms over the years and sees a specialist in Lyme disease now. She has had odd test results and has been diagnosed with AIH, Lupis, RA and chronic Lyme. And then the labs are not quite this or not quite that and so she currently has none of those diagnoses...has serious connective tissue disorders, 6 knee surgeries, a knee replacement and 3 shoulder surgeries.

We lived in Connecticut and vacationed every summer on Martha's Vineyard when she was a kid...so prime Lyme couuntry!!!!! As Lyme is a town near ours in Connecticut this should not surprise anyone.

She is intermittently on the AIH med regime and then wanders off when the flare up settles down. I wish I could get her to take her meds long term.

Hi PBP, I know this is an old thread, but did you find out what is going on with your liver?

No, I never found out what was wrong with it. My liver tests are still up (but not as bad as they were), I still get the pain, but the nausea isn't as bad. I get it tested every so often, but my doctors don't seem worried.
