HUSBANDS AMMONIA SPIKED TO 133 WITH TREATMENT

Phil is back in the hospital. When I got up this AM to give him his meds, he wasn't responding, so he went to ER. His ammonia has gone from 34 to 133 in 4 days with 3 tbls of lactulose 3 times a day and rifaxamin 550 twice a day!! unreal. His MELD is 26 according to the mayo clinic calculator. His kidneys were going into failure, but he was not real dehydrated, sodium  135. Here we go again!! He is still in the ER right now, but being admitted as soon as they get a bed for him.

It's amazing how quickly that can happen. I can only echo what PG said. He's in the right place now for care, though I know how hard this is on you. You must be emotionally and physically exhausted.

Thank you all for the positive feedback. Hubby is still in "Coma like state" from high ammonia. They have it down to 109, but he is still in bad shape. We should be getting an update from PA friday.

I think he would have to be back to full consciousness before they would do transplant. So let's pray that the hospital can get his ammonia down more!
