Hector, thanks for posting the info on Xifaxan financial help. It is also in the stickied thread at the top entitled Hepatitis Resources. Do you or a loved one have liver disease? If so, please start a new thread (click on New Topic instead of Reply) and introduce yourself to others here and your situation.

Johnny, congratulations, but wow! Quite a co-pay. I can only say that I have never heard anything good about Kaiser. I would think a PPO would be the best way to go. If you know what doctors or transplant center you will be seeing, I suggest calling them to find out if they take the specific insurance you mentioned.

Do most people battle HE with just Lactulose? If so I will drop Xifaxin. If so, I could start a savings fund to off set my deductible because even if I am accepted the 6 month pre existing rule comes into effect. Also, Kaiser has an underwriter and from the looks of their language I don't think they will take me. And it costs 600 + if I do go on. If I just put away 600 a month I could handle a months worth of deductibles saved in 4 months and 2 months in 8 to cover my ass for hospital stays And if I am good with no hospital stays my deductible fund will grow, right now I am feeling good, but I could have a bleed without notice ... Also my case worker said this is the highest deductible she has ever seen, so I am appealing this moronic amount. Office visits are 60 bucks on average and all my major docs I have seen and am seeing before the 30th. Received scrips for up to 6 months. 10 pints of Lactulose at Costco is 60 bucks. All my other scrps are generic and Costco has them for under 10 bucks. Any thoughts on dumping Xifaxin? The cheapest I could find it including that site was Costco for 650.00.

Johnny, as I mentioned previously, usually people with signs of HE are placed on Lactulose. IF that doesn't seem to be working, even at increased amounts, then Xifaxan is usually added. So you need to get with your prescribing physician to see if he will prescribe Lactulose and let you see if that works for you.

My PCP is super cool. She gave me a srcip for 10 pints a month with 6 refills already. She also wrote me the Xifaxin in case I wanted to pay for it. Just called Kaiser and since I would be going in on a "group" membership and not a individual... No underwriter!! When I had them before and disclosed my Hep C and bad hip. I was with them in 09 thru my wife but lost job and we had to drop. Now I just say hep C Liver problems and hip. They can find out the mess I'm in once I'm accepted. :)
