Help needed... Scared.

My liver enzymes GGT, ast and alt are all high. I've been seeing my primary. He doin it in February. My cholesterol is also high but, improving because I made major changes.

I'm freaking out because I have a lot of symptoms of liver disease. The itching is going to drive me insane. Today, I went for more blood work but all day I've had a massive headache and a fever.

I have herniated discs and am always in a lot of pain. I've been taking pain killers for a few years now. I was drinking alcohol excessively. I would like some opinions before I go back to the doctor on tues.

Do you think the fever and headache has anything to do with my liver, what is safe to take (I took Aleve and got no results)?

My symptoms are... I had a severe pain in my ride side abdomen a few months ago but that went away, dry mouth, thirsty, extreme fatigue, itching all day/night, dizzy and lightheaded, loss of appetite, shaky hands/tremors, my limbs go numb arms legs even thighs and butt, muscle spasms, and my ear just started ringing today. Does anyone have a suggestion as to what this could be. The doctor isn't Doug anything and I'm so afraid Im not going to get help in time.

With the fever and headache should I go to urgent care tonight?

Welcome to the forum, Sandela79. Most of the symptoms you describe have nothing to do with liver disease, unless the headache and fever are caused by an acute bout of viral hepatitis. Do you have any risk factors for hep A, B, or C? Fatigue and itching are associated with liver disease, as are the elevated liver enzymes. If you do not have viral hepatitis, this is something that can be turned around.

Your enzymes being high is cause for concern, depending on how high they are and how long they continue to be abnormal. When are you due for blood work again? If they are still elevated, ask your primary care doc for a referral to a hepatologist (liver specialist.)

The herniated disks are likely causing your numbness in lower extremities.

You can safely take acetaminophen up to about 1400 mg a day. If this drug does not give you relief, you should ask about oxycodone or another higher class of drug that does not contain ibuprofen. Your drinking and NSAID ingestion (if that is what you've been taking) would cause elevated enzymes over time. You need to stop both of those, if you haven't already.

If you still have the headache and it is the worst headache you've ever had, then go to the ER. If not, take some acetaminophen.

When will you have the results of today's blood work?

Thank you for your help. I get the results Monday. I stopped drinking around 10 months ago. I don't miss those days. It's been elevated since Feb. do you think any of the herbal liver fixes work for the enzymes? Thank you again.

No liver fixes. They make money for their manufacturers, but can cause more harm than good. Let us hear about the labs on Monday. Mama Lama

I agree with ML. Stay away from the liver fixes and any herbal supplements. Let us know the results of your latest blood work on Mon.
