Need 3rd Tips Revision

Got the results of my 6 month ultrasound of my liver. The scan showed that their was reduced pressure/flow in the shunt. Both ends of the shunt have narrowed, but especially the portal end.

This will be my 3rd revision. I had the original tips done in February 2011. They did a revision in March 2011 and another in July 2011.

cry I honestly thought this was behind me until my meld qualifies me for transplant.

Susie, I'm so sorry. I surely can empathize, as I had 3 hip revisions after my original bilateral hip replacements. I'm a little over 2 yrs. out from the last revision and hope there will never be another--but we can't predict the future and must do what we have to.

My thoughts are with you for a good outcome.

Susie , I haven't had trouble with mine so far in over 3 years but the docs said my last visit that it will need to be checked every 6 months . Four years as I recall was the typical span for TIPS to start clogging . Sorry you been having trouble with yours , Believe me I ain't looking forward to seeing mine giving me problems . I understood it was a temporary fix when I signed on for it so I accept the inevitable without the regret , A few months or years of living without painful hospital visit's was a gift . Things could have been alot worse if the surgery wasn't done , I was reaching the end of my rope when they approved me for it . Anyhow hope you get to feeling better and things work out for you .

I should have figured I would have problems since they did the tips to remove a portal vein clot and restore patency to my portal
Vein in the first place. I did not have nor have I ever developed ascites.

The tips was always meant to be a bridge to eventual transplant. The only other option was to do a graft of a donor portal vein during the liver transplant, but my team felt tips was the better option.

My ultrasound in January was good. But, it has deteriorated in the last six months.

One side effect of the tips I have noticed is an increase in foot and ankle edema. My HE improved and remains much milder than pre-tips.

My neck is going to be one big battle scar by the time I get transplanted. Ouch!!!!

Yep , That neck bandage is a pain all by itself . I was surprised to find out that I had hair that high up on my neck line , Ripped all my little piggy peach fuzz right out when it was removed . As far as scars mine isn't noticeable unless your looking hard at my shoulder roast . The mere fact someone is eyeballing that alone is enough to cause me concern , You know the way pork is going up in price now a day's .
Seriously I feel your pain and glad to hear HE went down for you . Mine still flares up on occasion and the edema in the ankles hasn't been a problem until the last 6 months for me , I can tell if I spend any extended time on my feet . I just try not to over do things .
