If she has good days here and there, that's a positive thing. I think she's shown herself to be a fighter, and hopefully she will continue to fight until she gets a new liver, and beyond.

Charlie,I have been reading your posts and It makes me want to cry,I will add both of you to my prayer list,and I pray now that things will start to get better !

I just spoke with one of the transplant surgeons, he says a fluid buildup has caused her breathing problems and they have increased her lasix to help lower the fluid retention. He says she is not septic, her blood pressure is stable, and after a couple of days she can hopefully be taken off the ventilator. She is being sedated so that she won't fight the tube. Her nutionist is going to start her on full nutrition via the picc line.

She has fought through so many hospital stays in the past that I hope and pray she can fight through this one.

Just checking in to see how things are going with you and Janie.  Thank you so much for the updates, we've been checking in more just to see if things are getting better for you guys.  She is a fighter and you are one heck of a husband....Our prayers and thoughts are with you both!!

The infectious disease dr just left says she has had two cultures now that have been negative and as far as he is concerned the infection is gone. Now just  need to get the fluid retention down so she can get off the ventilator. Nurse says platelets were still very low this morn but she got meds to help raise them.  Her appearance looks much better than yesterday, face not nearly as swollen. Her hemoglobin is 8 but her liver dr doesn't want to give her more blood since she doesn't have an active bleed.

He increased her lasix and added diuril, both seen to be working well as we can see the bloated look diminish. Yesterday her urine was a rust color, but today it is a light yellow and much more. The respiratory tech says her breathing sound much better today. Her chest xray yesterday showed she was drowning in her own fluid.

Now we just hope and pray she can once again be a surgical candidate as her MELD score must be extremely high. It was 33 last Saturday and nurse says her bilirubin today is 10, Creatine 1.5 but couldn't tell me her INR. Please forgive any typos as I'm using my IPhone.

The hospital called me at 4:30 this morning and told me Janie wasn't doing well that I needed be there ASAP. When I arrived with other family we learned that her blood pressure had dropped and when given meds to raise it she developed a GI bleed. She was immediately given platelets and two units of blood. Her hepatologist says she believes the bleeding has now stopped but probably came from varicie. One of the transplant surgeons put a main line put into her neck so they can give her more meds and has an endoscope scheduled for 3 pm today. She remains extremely critical. Her hepatologist doesn't mince words but tell us that if and when she believes there is no hope she will tell us however Janie is not at that stage, there is still hope.
