I have been introduced to HW by my sister.I am almost 45 and I have hep c and endstage cirrhosis.I have had bouts of HE.Recently completed detox for alcohol.I have been a self medicating for years.I have had several tests ranging from endoscopy to colonoscopy.I have esphogeal varices and currently experiencing pain in lower right abdomen.I have follow-up appts with pcp that I will inform him of pain in right side.

I was diagnosed in 09 with cirrhosis and hep c.I was diagnosed in Nov.2011 with endstage cirrhosis.All of which means a change in my behavior.Looking for a sound support group just to talk with and share info when I can.

Welcome Jober , A moderator will be along soon to help you get a round in here . I myself have Cirrhosis but we have many here with both Hep.C and quite a few survivors .

Jober welcome to the forum!! The pain you are experiencing in the rt. lower abdomen could be from gall stones or gall duct blockage. I also have hep C. I had cirrhosis and liver cancer twice, resulting in a liver transplant last Oct.

I am concerned that you are not seeing a hepatologist. PCPs have little knowledge of liver disease and how to treat it. Please get a referral to a hep doc or make an appt. yourself.

It's great that you are off alcohol now. That is the very best thing you can do for your liver. Also, should you need a transplant, you have to have 6 mos. of DOCUMENTED sobriety. Are you going to AA meetings? That is where your documentation would come from.

You will find a lot information about liver disease in the folder at the top of the page, entitled Hepatitis Resources.

Good morning Jober and welcome.

Great news that you are doing well.

My partner of 30+ years has Hep C also. He was a drinking man until he faced death head on and quit in September 2010 when the docs were clear he'd die within 90 days.

He decided to live, quit drinking and got evaluated for transplant. He needed 6 months of documented sobriety so he joined AA and went many times each week

He felt better on all the meds tho his HE from ammonia was very bad

He was transplanted shortly after they found a tumor in his liver

He is doing pretty well now. He is 62 and has 6 wonderful grandchildren. He has much to live for.

Well Hello Lil Joe , We been hearing a good bit about you from ya sis . Bud you are sooo lucky to have someone like her in your life .

I went down the road you have been on and I know things will be tough for you to get through this transition period of sobriety and health concerns , If you need anyone to talk to feel free to give the pig ( Ziffle ) a holler . I had a feeling when I saw your post that it was you , So glad you have joined in . There is alot to learn about whats going on with your body and how to fight it .
Over the last four years I learned enough through this one site to get me from deaths door to feeling fine as a pig in sh## .

Don't worry about typing , It wasn't a natural for me either . I'm just glad your giving this a try regardless , Thats the most important . Every journey starts with one step .

Hey there lil Joe... almost like Bonanza huh... congratulations on your sobriety... Lil Joe... you are on the right track. I have been a caretaker for a person with Hep C and ESLD. Welcome to our forum. This is a place that has people form all walks of life and all across the nation and world even. The information is solid and the support is great. Sometimes we hijack threads and laugh a bit or two... one has to do that you know. Welcome. great to see you here.

Hi Jober...Welcome

   My hubby has Hep C and end stage liver disease.  He has just spent 6 months in a nursing home and is home for awhile...maybe for good.  We have learned so much about this disease on this forum and trial and error.  Glad to see you on here.  This HW has been my good companion through the fight with this disease.

   We have found that the less processed foods my hubby eats, the better he feels.  Very little salt, so he doesn't retain fluid.  He was depressed at first, but has way outlived the 3-6 months Dr. gave him.  It is possible to do okay with this disease for some, so just keep at it and keep posting.

   Often I read the HW to my hubby, as he has lost the ability to type because of the HE.  We constantly battle with the HE, but he has no "bleeds" and  his pain is under control.
