My ex wife suffered with alcohol cirrhosis about 5 years ago.At the time of her treatment the specialist told me that this condition could most likely cause a personality change in her and that I should refer her to councelling. I did not take this seriously as we were so much in love after 18 years of a happy marriage and could not accept that a change would take place.IT DID!!! and she became a completely different person and she changed for the worse towards me. We had to part. I still love her. We are both single.Good THING IS THAT SHE DID NOT TOUCH ALCOHOL SINCE THEN. Do others have similar experiences?

" But that was yesterday, and I was a different person then." This quote is attached to one of our moderators regular post ( Hep93 ) . It sums up the situation you speak of in a nut shell . Practicing alcoholics live in a delusional world . In essence now that she is no longer drinking she isn't the same person she was probably when you met . It happens . The important thing is that if you love her is to be glad she quit drinking . Liver disease is horrible and she just may have escaped that pain . Secondly if it ain't meant then don't force it . Go on about your life and find someone else .

Dear B,

  You ask if anyone has had the same experience with personality change. Yes, I have.  My husband of 11 years (and 4 yrs before that) was diagnosed with ESLD 2 years ago.

  He was the kindest nicest most helpful man I had ever met...which is why I married after being single 23 years.  BUT...this disease has changed him SO SO much.  For the worse of course.  We are married, and he is now disabled from the disease so I can't just walk away, but....I do have to review the wedding vow tape often.  It has changed him a lot and somedays is just breaks my heart and other days I get so angry with him.

  Yes, this disease is horrible.  His disease was from Hep C, but don't think it makes a difference what it is from at this point.  So sorry things changed so much for you and she.  Hard to accept, huh?  Take care

Thank you all for your kind responses and advice.Have managed all the heart break and loneliness for past five years and am sure will manage for the future although it is very difficult.Many say do not live in the past-forget her there are many others if you give them a chance - it is easy to be said but difficult to handle - especially all the memories!!! Memories are only the past sieved.All the bad and hardships forgotten.The present will be the past tomorrow.

So sorry about your heartbreak and lonliness over last 5 years. But....the truth is, the women you loved...before the personality change...would want you to be happy.
So, time to move on and create a happier life for yourself. My granny used to say, "People are as happy as they want to be." She was a corker!! Good luck Basanth....I know it's not easy.
