Been Thankful for Your Input

Hi.  I have been lurking here for over 2 weeks reading all your stories.  First off, my 52 year old sister died of drinking 2 years ago.  The hospital and her husband were so tight lipped about her condition they told everyone they did not know if it was because of drinking or not but she officially died from a rupture in her intestines.  She was a heavy wine drinker for 25 plus years and only brought to the hospital when she was so frail and probably weighed 65 lbs.  I was shocked to see the skelatol condition she was in.  She was in the hospital and released to go home after 3 months and I believe that was because there was nothing else to do for her.  She died 3 days later.......Now to me.....I have had the scare of my life.  Had open heart surgergy 4 years ago at the age of 47.  Recovered from that fine but left with a very painful hiatel hernia from when the chest tubes were removed.  Surgery a year later did not corrrect.  June of this year felt horrible, I had no strength to walk or breath more than 5 feet.  My 17 y.o. son rushed me to the ER and I was in full V-Tach.  A week in the hospital and I walked out with a shiney new defillabrater inplanted in my chest forever.  December 1st of last year my husband of 20 years decided he didn't want to be married anymore and walked out.  Left me with the house that is now in foreclosure.  Anyway every 3 months bllod work.  2 weeks ago my liver results came back terrible and I know I have been drowning my sorrows in wine.  Doc immeditatly ordered liver function tests.  Results came back today all NORMAL.  It was a scarey week of waiting but this forum has opened my EYES.  I vow on my sons life to take better care and stop drinking.  THANK YOU ALL!

Welcome to Healing Well. I am sorry that your sister passed of ESLD. As you know from reading this forum, it is a horrible way to go.
You have done good if you have stopped drinking. And your liver tests have returned to normal. Make sure you follow up with your doctor and ask him all the questions you need to about your liver. Read the Hepatitis Resources folder at the top of all these threads. There is all kinds of information there about all types of liver disease. Write down your questions as you read this, and ask your doctor.

 It's never too late to turn this thing around and the ball is in your hands , It's hard overcoming a death in the family . I can only offer my condolences to you and the family .

Find someone to share those feelings you have been having instead of letting them fester and make you even sicker , Don't lean on alcohol to take the pain away . I do applaud you for having the sense to see where that road would take you . Hope you keep it up and stay vigilant with doctors and start living better .
