Relapse

Im Genotype 3a, diagnosed 21 yrs ago, Stage 2...did 6 mos tx with peg interferon and riba...undetected at 5 weeks til end of tx.  6wks post tx UND....6 mos post tx...1.8 million viral load.  I had such a hard time with the tx, sx awful, days i wanted to die, days i thought i was dying and days i was homocidal.  Not sure I could handle another round of treatment.  When I started tx viral load was only 300,000 and now it seems to be back with a vengence.  Genotype 3 is supposedly one of the easiest to cure, not sure what happened or what to do now.  Can't see dr for 2 months and he wasnt much help throughout treatment.  Any thoughts, ideas or advice?

Hi, Barefoot, and welcome to the forum. I'm very sorry to hear that you have relapsed. I agree with David. Find a hepatologist. You might want to try the new triple drug treatment, or wait until later in the year when even better treatments, that eliminate interferon, become available.

hey barefoot,sorry to hear the news. i relapsed twice on int/riba. so discouraging! after reading your post i would find a dr. , you can relate to. if i was in your situation i would ask dr. for a post tx. evaluation of your liver, or biopsy. if your liver  is stable and your following a healthy life style(no alcohol), i would wait for 2 years till new , all oral, no INTERFERON tx are readily available. your liver probably improved somewhat, being you were undetectable for 6 1/2 mos. triple tx has inter feron, and riba and a third drug that makes tx even tougher.    barry

Barry, I don't think she would have to wait 2 yrs. From what I've read, the non-interferon treatment will be available later this year.

Barefoot, good to hear you are getting a referral to a new hep doc.

hey connie,  yes i believe the all oral drugs will be available late next year. there are 4 companies competing to be the 1st to hit the market with all oral txs. its like a corporate lottery. the fda needs to see consistant performance to approve regimen. one of the cos. is starting stage 3 trials as we speak(write).trial begins in march. others are already in stage 3.  i am not arguing when the drugs will be available. i truly hope this summer. just in case there not ready, have your dr evaluate your livers health before waiting. treating early gives best odds of svr. also best chance for liver repair.     barry

 

  i read your 1 year followup. i agree you need to stop the progression. 4 weeks of triple tx and youll know. rvr has become commonplace. i wish you the best     barry
