That's too funny! God bless 'em.

Every time hubby hears an ambulance in our gated community, he always says "there goes another house up for sale"....(he's so bad!) whereas I was taught in Catholic school to say a prayer anytime I hear a siren.

While driving with my Mom in the car, I was outraged by an agressive driver cutting me off so while spouting off about it, she got very quiet. I said "Mom, are you okay?" and she said "I'm fine, I was just saying a prayer that he gets home safe".

She was such a saint :)

Mae , Snow birds are kinda considered a " Taint " Yankee . Kinda like that useless spot between the ........ and the ......... " Taint one or tother " . Now as far as the IGA's and the Piggly Wiggly is concerned , They are generally located in small towns ( Listen for Dualing banjos and your getting close ) .

The economy thing is baseball bat to the head or could be a lifesaver as far as tourism is concerned , Solely depends on what you like . Noisy crowded streets full of potholes or dusty unpaved roads . Me , I'll take the dusty dirt road . I don't think the wildlife particularly enjoys urban sprawl either . With FL Between Sugar cane and developed or developing land a entire eco system is dead or dying . There again maybe not , Maybe they'll just adapt to eating tourist  shocked  LOL . Maybe they'll call it part of their economy and invite friends .

I live 15 miles west of the Atlantic shore in that in between area...too much pavement and WalMart-Home Depot-Publixs-CVSs to the east and empty wilderness to the west. 

West of my neighborhood are cattle ranches, orange groves, sugar cane fields and a giant Lake -- Okeechobee -- it is 3 driving hours til you reach Sarasota or Tampa. 

My neighbors are funny. They choose the edge of civilization where we have lots of green space but bit** because we have alligators, Raccoons, feral pigs, rattlesnakes, deer, rabbits, armadillos and the skankiest squirrels I have ever seen...doing what animals do...eat, sleep, poo, and eat your garden, etc... These folks need to move to apartment buildings in a city.

OMG, the part about the "skankiest squirrels"  made me bust a gut!
