Hi songbird and welcome to the forum.
Yes, indeed, some folks are sedated, even put to sleep for liver biopsy. Some folks report a biopsy is uncomfortable, others don't have that experience.
Most have the biospy using ultrasound so they can get to just the right place(s) to get the tissue that will best help with a diagnosis.
You haven't told us much about
yourself, we will assume that you have liver disease and the docs want to see what damage has been done.
How about
you tell us a bit of your story and then come back often to share your journey.
Good luck with the biopsy.

Hi, Songbird and welcome. Actually, being put under is rare. Some may get conscious sedation, whereby you won't remember anything. Most centers do not want patients to take anything, including anti-anxiety meds. The good news is that if done properly, you will feel very little. If the local anesthetic is introduced slowly, a little at a time using imaging, you will not feel the biopsy at all. Just make sure that the biopsy is done by a radiologist using imaging.
Let us know how it goes.
Hugs,
Connie

Songbird, the fear is far greater than the actual procedure. But be sure to speak to the nurse prior to going to the procedure room and let her know that you need something for your nerves. Perhaps you can get a sedative.
