WD, if you have untreated hep C or treatment was unsuccessful, you still have the virus in your body. Just because you have a transplant doesn't mean that the hep C is gone. It's still in the blood stream. After recovery from transplant, a treatment should be started. The ones now being used are "the combo" which is interferon and ribaviron, or the 3-drug treatment of the above 2 meds plus a 3rd drug of a protease inhibitor (Incivek or Boceprevir.) The combo is taken for 48 weeks to a year. The triple therapy is taken from 24 weeks to a year; however, the protease inhibitor is only taken for the first 12 weeks.
