I didn't ask, but they were small.

"Did you have any scans before (Mri, CT, Pet) that may of seen these tumors or were they missed?"
I had an MRI a couple of months prior.

"Were you very sick...is that why your meld score jumped so high?"
I was very sick for the entire 4 years. They think the tumors may have been the reason my MELD jumped so quickly. So in a way, they saved my life.


" Do you have Hep C?"
Yes. I've had it since I was 15, but discovered it in 2001.

I might add that David did the combo hep C treatment for at least a year and is currently undetectable.

Is it that with some people, once you get a transplant, the virus doesn't come back and with others it comes back attacking the new liver? Are there any medications that can be given post transplant to minimize the chance for reoccurance?

Can Hep C go into a dormant state? What Meds control Hep C?
With Hep B, there is a medication called Hepsera.

WD, if you have untreated hep C or treatment was unsuccessful, you still have the virus in your body. Just because you have a transplant doesn't mean that the hep C is gone. It's still in the blood stream. After recovery from transplant, a treatment should be started. The ones now being used are "the combo" which is interferon and ribaviron, or the 3-drug treatment of the above 2 meds plus a 3rd drug of a protease inhibitor (Incivek or Boceprevir.) The combo is taken for 48 weeks to a year. The triple therapy is taken from 24 weeks to a year; however, the protease inhibitor is only taken for the first 12 weeks.
