I was attempting to figure out how much helmet laws may impact transplantation. I came across this:

Then I looked at population by state:

We don't hear much about transplants in TX...which has a lot of biker death. I wish we had a more active board with people from other parts of the country. Perhaps they are like I was for many months...lurking.

This is a lot of information and well presented.

I went through the links and copied the specific pages about Jackson for Mike.

For the analytical mind...this shows a lot of folks are getting transplanted in the US and sadly, plenty pass along the way.

Last time I heard the figures, it was 14,000 people who passed (that year) while waiting for a liver.

How are you doing? I hope my husband is one day post transplant. Life pretty much stinks for him right now.

But..........

Did you add an extra zero (wink)?

I think it is about 1,400 per year that die waiting a transplant in the US. The numbers per the below article are approximate, but close.

Per below article
16,000 are waiting
6,300 approx transplants per year
1,400 die waiting (approx)

Of course there would be a large number that remain on the list...waiting.

Sorry, I should have said that 14,000 died either waiting for a liver, or not trying to get one. We have seen several people here that didn't want to have a transplant and died. In other words, they died from ESLD.

I'm doing very well these days. Don't know how I felt a day after, as I was under anesthesia for 36 hours. Woke up 3 days later. At that point, I was fuzzy and uncomfortable, but had no pain. Have never had any pain, the area is still a little numb, 3 1/2 years later. I'm back to work setting tile and about to go fishing this afternoon.

I wonder how many are never listed by choice or by..."lack of". Lack of so many things...support network, insurance, money, or good enough health to be listed. I know several people that can not treat Hep C for the same "lack of" ....fill in the blank.

You made me laugh. That is not something I get enough of. ?Did I mean " I hope my husband is "1 day" post transplant? Hummm. Yeah, but...he'd rather be fishing 3.5 years post transplant ;)   So would I.    Hugs, themiz
