Morning
!
Thanks again for advice and support! I got everything all cleaned up and my dad was able to come home yesterday after his ammonia got back down to 90, his blood pressure was human level again, and he got 4 units of blood. The nurse had called me the night before concerned because his ammonia was at 190...but he was still talking to me like normal on the phone and didn't seem very altered! Wow Mae be here, 667 ! Your poor brother! That must be such a scary feeling. I just knew from his initial visit to the ER when he was diagnosed the dr was freaked out because it was close to 100, and he kept telling me normal was 40 and the way he was talking I thought my dad was going to die if it didn't get back down to 40. I have since been more educated on this and those numbers, and to recognize when the HE is creeping in and confusing him.
We were so, so lucky to have our family doctor see him each day and to be in contact with his transplant hospital. I think the blood helped, and I know it's just a number but I was relieved when his ammonia meds started working again and it was at 80 yesterday. Everything's being faxed up to his transplant coordinator because his MELD crept up a few points. We got a script for Kristalose since he had so much trouble with the Lactulose, but the pharmacy had to order it so we're still waiting on it. My dad took a nausea pill, then after I mixed that Lactulose with some Sprite he was able to keep it down, thank goodness! As soon as he got home he was so happy and wanted to mow the lawn and go fishing, but I reminded him he needed to take it easy right now and we'll get out to fish this weekend. He is also SO glad to be out of the hospital because they had him hooked up to all the fun beeping machines that keep you up all night, so he slept well.
I have to take him Monday back to our doctor to get labs done-they're checking his ammonia level again, kidney function, blood sugar, etc. I have our new disinfecting system in place so he will stay nice and clean and hopefully not-germy. Something odd did pop up though I will mention to the doctor Monday. He has had those spider-like spots on his skin for a while, but he just started getting spots on his legs, torso and back-they are dark and sort of look like bruises. I know Xifaxan can cause a rash, but these just look like dark marks-they don't hurt or itch him.
Thanks again everyone! Connie, I hope you got the ^#)&*^ wound vac off and are doing better! And thanks Carol, it is so helpful here.
Hope everyone has a nice, healthy Friday!
