All,
I agree with Connie's very essential post: folks who are grieving sometimes don't take care of themselves.
Case in point: My dear sister lost her partner of 40 years 3 years ago February. Sis has not been the same. At first she was just lost in her grief. She didn't eat, didn't sleep, didn't do her normal things. She got some therapy (lots of therapy), she lost 90 lbs (she had 90 lbs to lose) and started to feel thinner and good about that. But still was grieving terribly.
Then she started to lose her marbles. She has some kind of dementia that is confounding a neurologist, 2 psychiatrists and 2 psychologists. she has had every test. They don't find much wrong with her brain or her intelligence. She is taking the meds they give her for anxiety, mood swings, sleeplessness. But she is getting worse...getting lost in her car, forgetting to do things like pay her rent. For years, she was the person in the couple who paid the bills, did the taxes, organized the insurance, etc.
The only thing they can find wrong is on blood tests...mores specifically Vitamin deficiencies...very low B12, etc.
I think the docs are on to something and if she would just EAT right or take those giant Vitamin B12 pills the suggested, there is a chance she could come out of this.
Her eating plan goes like this...if it tastes good and is 100 calories or less, she can eat it. So a breakfast bar or a yogurt or 3 cookies or a handful of pretzels or one of those 100 snack packs of cookies or chips?
Are you hearing about meat or veggies or fruit...NO YOU ARE NOT. I am begging her. The docs are begging her. When she does eat, she eats for a 300 lb woman...too much, too much sauce, ice cream...and then she has a horrible tummy ache and diarrhea...and goes back on the "starvation" diet.
I forgot to tell you that she may have 10packs of the 100 calorie tiny chocolate chip cookies and call that a meal...NO IT IS NOT.
Well, that's my tale of the day. Nothing about livers...but about grief and killing yourself with not taking care....
Hug yourselves...you are worth it.
Carol
