Jazzdame, it would've been better to ask your question on your original thread, just below. I had to go back to it to remember exactly what is going on with him. Mostly, we don't know. When is his GI appt. scheduled? You will need to talk to the doctor and also push for a biopsy and other tests.
It takes time for the body to reverse after acute alcoholic hep. Depending on the damage he did with drinking for 40 yrs., which is really unknown at this point. He should not be using mouthwash with alcohol or taking Nyquil, using cough syrups with alcohol, or even pure vanilla extract or other extracts containing alcohol.
As for the HE/hepatic encephalopathy (not EH), you've asked that question before. I had answered that it could be, but he would need to have his ammonia tested. If it's high, he should be on Lactulose. Is his strange behavior all the time or most of the time? Be sure to mention this to the doctor.
He just needs a lot more testing and consults. Write down your concerns and questions and take them with you to his GI appt.
Hugs,
Connie
