Susie , I met a guy a couple weeks back that was on the list and waiting for " The call " . He had a 23 MELD and listed at Duke University . My wife and I saw a couple really old cars that had been restored sitting next to a dilapidated old barn . A guy was out front mowing the grass so I talked the wife into letting me stop and talk to him for a second . Second turned into 45 minutes ( much to wife's dismay ) . He and a friend had just finished the second car and he mentioned work had been put off for a little while until he got to feelin better . Turns out he has Hep C. and when I told him I have cirrhosis and being treated at U.N.C Chapel Hill it was like we had been friends for years .
I was taken back by how well he was doing and being so close to " The call " . Mowing grass , Restoring cars and had very little signs of physical symptoms . He was anxious about the call and had spoken to his doctors twice the week before about his status on the list and when he would be next . I walked away from there that day with a new friend and a reassuring , comforted feeling . I hope I had the same impact on him . We hear each other's voices so often here through these post but actually seeing a real trooper in this fight is truly inspirational .
I have been uneasy about the thought of going down hill again , Don't get me wrong I'm o.k right now . The thought of going back there never seems to go away though . That chance meeting with this guy that day really did me some good . Here's hoping you get that new liver soon and as always glad to see your doing well .
