weight loss post transplant...

Was weight loss an issue, post transplant? My mom is having a difficult time gaining weight. She is drinking about 2 Glucerna (protein drink for diabetics) daily, for added calories. She doesn't have much of an appetite. And having diverticulitis 2 times within the last month has not helped with trying to gain weight. Did anyone else have this issue? Any advice???

There you go again, WD. Being concerned again. Did you speak to her TC about this? Meanwhile, make it 3 Glucerna and also try making some fattening smoothies. Put peanut butter in it...and ice cream. Diverticulitis does make a difference and she probably is having trouble gaining weight because of it. This is not really a transplant issue.

@ Connie...yes...I always am in contact with her Transplant Coordinator. She answers my questions and is very helpful. Transplant team is concerned about her not gaining weight as they want to be kept in the loop about everything. You're right...diverticulitis is not a transplant issue but it is a GI issue and it has been addressed by her GI doctor. Just looking for some ideas/suggestions on what foods might help her gain weight? BTW...we just began working with a nutritionist. And...I will bump it up to 3 Glucerna :-)

Good on getting a nutritionist. Ask them about smooth peanut butter. It shouldn't be irritating to her gut. And good for you on spelling diverticulitis correctly. smilewinkgrin

@ Connie...per the nutritionist, smooth peanut butter is okay. Lots of protein and tastes yummy! We will definitely start trying the smoothies...thank you for the suggestion!
