Red, blotchy skin

Hi:
The doctors are stumped, and I was hoping you could help.

about 2 months ago my arm was itching horribly and I noticed that it was really red. By the next day, the redness had spread and tripled in size. It resembled a spider bite, so the doctor gave me antibiotics. It is now a very light pink. about 2 weeks ago, the same thing happened, but this time it appeared on my leg. My arm started to flare up again, as well. My doctor told me that she didn't know what it was and referred me to a dermatologist, who I see in Sept. My leg and arm are much improved, however, my arm is still a light pink.

Could this possibly be related to my liver disease, or is it something else? At the onset of these blotches, the itching made me feel like my body was on fire. I used calamine lotion for about the first week of onset to keep from scratching.

I must mention, though, that it is not a circular rash. It branches out, which is the best way that I can explain it. The funny thing is that the original rash flared up again almost 2 months later, getting very red, swollen and itching all over again. It almost looks like the smaller surface veins burst. It definitely is not a bug bite, unless bugs bite in the same area more than once, several weeks apart.

Whether related or unrelated, urticaria (hives) is an annoying affliction that I have suffered with for 15 years or so. Been to two dermatologists but they couldn't pinpoint.

My daughter gets them from cold, heat (rapid temp changes). One doc thought mine may be stress-related. Sometimes they just can't say. When they get really bad, like all over my legs, I take prednisone b/c hydroxizine doesn't touch it, neither dies Benadryl.

Seems the more you scratch the worse it gets. They call it "the itch that causes rashing". They can appear in the same places but not always. Arm, legs, feet, buttocks are the usual places.

When I get them on my feet (usually instep) it's hard to walk. If untreated they will go away eventually but are so darn itch it's hard to ignore.

Was hoping to grow out of it :)
