Hi, I became a member right after being diagnosed with cirrhosis in January 2010. Reading your posts gave me hope and information. Thank you.

While I am still recovering I am looking forward. The prospect of returning to work both excites and daunts me. I am a 57 year old female, professional employee working for a large company.

How many of you have returned to work successfully?

All you told us is that you have cirrhosis. What are you recovering from? What caused your cirrhosis?

David, I accidentally erased the comment of receiving the Gift of Life.

I had a liver transplant on May 22, 2013. I feel so BLESSED!

My cirrhosis was diagnosed by 2 different hepatoligists. One said NASH and the other alcoholic. I went through the AA program with no setbacks.

Because of my blood type (AB neg.) I received a liver after only 3 weeks on the transplant list. Unbelievable to me.

Congratulations, Kim! David returned to work after transplant and treatment for hep C, and is doing great. He's a little older than you. I am past retirement age and don't foresee ever working again, except for here as a volunteer moderator.

Do you feel you have your alcohol ingestion under control? You don't "go through the AA program" unless you are speaking of the 6 mos. required for transplant. For most with alcoholism, it is a lifelong commitment. I no longer attend due to transportation issues and medical problems that keep me at Mayo much of the time. However, I did go frequently for 20 yrs. and still practice the steps and meditate/pray.

Yes, I still attend weekly AA meetings. The Outpatient Intensive Program and later Early Recovery Group, I attended from 2010-2012 did end. I have never relapsed. I love life and have a wonderful family. The Big Book is always with me.

My concern about work relates to my sleep pattern. I tend to wake every one to two hours all night. I take naps daily, for 2 hours. Plus, little things like stomach aches, headaches, feeling off with BM problems etc. add to my concern. I say little in comparison to not surviving this disease. I really feel so much better and don't want to complain. Also, typing these posts is irritating me a bit. I type a sentence and then it flips and disappears.....ugh. So, I am trying to keep them simple....

Congratulations on your transplant! I had a few glitches at first, but now things are going well. My transplant took place a little over 4 years ago.

Kim, you are only 4 mos. out from TP, so very new. It takes awhile to straighten out. I did well until they had to open me up again about 5 mos. out, due to an infection, and that's when the problems began. Also, I have untreated hep C, which is the main reason for all my problems. I think you will do fine.
