Fibroscan Result Help

Hi I recently had a fibroscan done the result was 5.1 Kpa and LFTs were normal. Is this in Normal range? I did not get a consultation. The operating nurse said a score below 7 Kpa was normal. My question is I have read a lot of literature online that confuses me with regards to normal fibroscan scores and was wondering if anyone could tell me if my reading is within the normal range. I am a 46 year old male who drank heavily in the past but only drinks occasionally now. Any help would be much appreciated as I am more confused about my result than ever and my GP seems in the dark also. Thanks in advance for any help.

Thanks for your kind reply. I went privately for the fibroscan as I was worried about my heavy drinking in the past. I did not get a consultation, but the operating nurse said anything below a 7Kpa was within the normal range, when I went to my GP he had never heard of a fibroscan and anything I have read online about the results have varied a lot and been very confusing.

BigH, hello and welcome to the forum. The good news is that you can most likely make this right. Stop drinking altogether and I can almost guarantee that your liver will heal itself. If you have trouble stopping, seek help at AA. It worked for me. You have an opportunity here to save your own life. I hope you care enough about it to do what is necessary.

You need to be honest with medical personnel if with nobody else (though it's pretty much required at AA, too, for you to get anything out of the program.) Stop drinking completely for 6 mos., then have a regular biopsy or MRI with Gadolinium contrast. If you haven't already done too much damage, your liver should be healthy again. The liver has an amazing ability to heal itself, but only if you stop throwing caustic substances into it.
