Do I need to worry about getting Hepatitis B still (Old thread read my newest post)

This is not for me, this is for my girlfriend who has Hepatitis B.


Hbsag - Positive
Hbeag - Negative
anti-hbe Positive

Hepatit-B DNA IE/Ml <5 Negative

What does this test show?

Hello.

I had unprotected sex with my girlfriend for the first time yesterday, and now I am worried again.

To get an update on the situation, she takes tests every year for her chronic hepatitis B, and the last year she have had such low amount of the virus in her body they think she can get rid of it to 100%.

Now for the latest years, and mainly this year, she took 4 vials of blood test to see, and they basically couldnt find the virus in her and is now determing wether she has gotten rid of the virus fully or not.

I have also been vaccinated (3 times full vaccination) for Hepatitis and been confirmed that the vaccination worked for me, so according to the doctors i am now immune to the virus, but paranoid as I am I still worry.


In these conditions, is there really any real risk for me of getting Hepatitis B?
I know its strange to ask you guys here since the doctors already told me i am now immune against Hepatitis B, + she more or less has gotten rid of the virus in her blood, but still i feel the need to get some answers here.

Did you meet with your girlfriend's doctor, yet? When you do, make sure you address all your questions and concerns as he is the one treating her and knows her history, etc. However, in the meanwhile, I hope this helps... I found this on the internet...

"HBeAg and anti-HBe: HBeAg is the hepatitis B envelope antigen, and anti-HBe are the antibodies produced against this antigen. If HBeAg is detectable in a blood sample, this means that the virus is still active in the liver (and can be transmitted to others). If HBeAg is negative and anti-HBe is positive, this generally means that the virus is inactive. However, this is not always the case. Some people with chronic hepatitis—especially those who havebeen infected with HBV for many years—may have what is known as a “precore” or “core variant” mutated form of HBV. This can cause HBeAg to be negative and anti-HBe to be positive, even though the virus is still active in the liver."

mark, this test shows chronic infection with low risk of liver damage and is in carrier state

and what about the infection risk?
According to her doctor she is very very low to not infecting other people, so what does the <5 negative test mean then?

According to her doctor, kisses, unprotected oral sex is considered safe,
and I am also vaccinated.

Also, what about unprotected normal sex then?
I have the vaccination done a year ago.

Just break up with her. Simple, You've gotten the info from her doctor, Parents, Her and us and your still paranoid about it. Perhaps rightfully so, The decisions you make today will effect every aspect of life tomorrow. You could stretch this conversation out forever and it still wouldn't be enough to ease your mind. You don't have the disease and she is at low risk to you. You've done all you could.

hey mark, i deal with heavy anxiety,ocd, and depression myself. so i get it. if i remember correctly your dr said you were immune. you cant get it. her dr can explain it better. try to calm down and have a great holiday season

Thanks for all the responses, and no, ofcourse I am not going to break up with her.
I am just wondering what the test means, for example the "Hepatitis B Virus test:
Hepatit-B DNA IE/Ml <5 Negative"

According to her doctor she is negative for the virus because it is such a very very low amount of the virus in her blood, and therefore she is almost free from it, and can be 100% free from it in the future.


What you guys saying about that?

And my girlfriend cant 'feel' that she has the hepatitis in any way, so she is feeling good.
She has good knowledge about when she gets her menstruation cycle and when she does she always uses sanitary towel + 'plug' when she has it.


I just want to understand more how this all works, the test that shows 'Hepatit-B DNA IE/Ml <5 Negative' says that for the virus she is negative, but has "<5".

How much is that really? According to her doctor and her it is very very very low, and it can go down even lower in the future. How does this actually works? How does the virus that nearly isnt there anymore go down even lower, without any treatment?

Mark, the dna is the viral load. the less than five(<5 negative) is the sensitivty of the testing equipment. if you fall below that threshold, you are below the level of quantification. the negative is below the level of detection. very difficult to pass a disease that is not in her blood

Soo, since it doesnt seem to be in her body anymore, what is 'left' to do to get 100% healed from it?

Are you saying that <5 negative means she doesnt have it in her blood at all?
or that <5 is a short term for how much it is?

I get so happy when I hear good news about this.

If this is the case, I dont know why i still worry about it and her, when also her doctor says she is fine now.

        every thing sounds good mark.  i think the only thing of concern, is when to get a booster.  you made it another year, and you will make it many more. you can get a blood test to check for anti bodies(immunity).

Mark, you're in a tough spot. I myself, learned I had Hepatitis B last year and apparently I am a chronic carrier with no liver damage. Just because her DNA Viral Load is < 5, does not mean she is clear and free of it! Even when it's undetectable in the bloodstream, it still lives in the liver. This is where the challenge is and why they have not developed a cure, because they can't find one that works the way it should.... though they are very close.

Clearing her of the virus, is not easy. With Chronic Hepatitis B, she will probably be asked to take Tenofovir (Viread) or Entecavir (Barraclude) to "try and clear it" but those meds, are used as a good treatment. Unless these doctors know her HBSag levels, which it doesn't seem like she got on a test nor is it available publically to people in the United States, then there's no way to know how close she is to being cured.

The way I see it, the only way she can be considered cured is if she seroconverts, and the best way to get that to happen (91% chance) is to have her go on Interfereon. As far as your concerns on being with her while you've been vaccinated, just be careful. If your vaccinated and your tests are negative, then you should be ok from here on out. It's probably more of a mental thing than anything else.

Like your girlfriend, I am considered a "least infectious" type. However, I'm very conscious now about any form of relationship I could potentially have, until I'm cured. Feel free to ask me any questions. I've learned a lot about Hepatitis B the past year.
