Good Morning guys,
I just needed a little extra support today. As we are headed to th ER due to coffee ground appearance to my Husband's throw up. I will keep you all updated.

Varices? Internal bleeding tends to show up looking black and tar consistency. Hope he's o.k. Always important to monitor poop and vomit. Not one of the more appealing jobs associated with ESLD but very important. In fact nothing really pleasant about any of it. Fire away with your support issue's, One of us is always around. Our members are pretty good about giving a response even if they aren't sure of what's going on. I'll be checking in and out today and looking for a update.

Kristen,

Good he's getting right to the ER. They will sort it out. Many of our members have been successfully banded over time. Keep us posted during the day if you have access to a smart phone or laptop.

I've spent hours and hours in ERs with Mike over the years and know the time takes on a "forever" feeling.

Yes he had one banding about 8 weeks ago, they checked two weeks later. He was told all was fine. We have daily BM talks Ziffle. He has been pretty weak the last few days. But his jaundice literally vanished over night.

Traffic is insane we should be at the hospital in about 35 more minutes.

Potassium at 6(H) , sodium at 114 (L) he will be here for the next few days. They will do endoscopy once things are more in control. Neither he nor I slept last night, doing our best to breathe.

Hopefully just a rocky point, I had my share of those. He's in the best place for now and give him our best. Don't forget to take care of yourself. You are no good to anyone if your warn out.

Maybe taking a sample of the vomit to the ER, should it happen again, will help point them in the right direction.

Thank you guys. He is there I am home with the kids. We are all feed, bathed and ready for a good rest. I always rest better when he is admitted since I know he is being watched with caring and alert eyes.

My sentiments exactly, Kristin.

Been there...arggh, elusive sleep. Every time we went to the ER at Mayo, I always hoped that they would keep him, just for "observation". I know that sounds selfish but I was always exhausted. Plus, I figured he'd be better off as an inpatient in case a liver became available for him, which is just what happened :)

There were a couple of trips to the ER, when I was glad they hospitalized me. The last time, I was in for a week, got the call for a transplant 3 days later.

Thanks for checking in. At the hospital now. His electrolytes stabilized a bit after he received a blood transfusion. They did the endoscopy and banded two more small varices. Unfortunately now they said he has developed a staph infection. So I guess we will be here for a few more days. Tired and tired :/

Kristin,

If you are anything like me, you are at the hospital 27 hours a day...I encourage you to take care of yourself, go home, get some rest, visit intermittently, perhaps when you have some idea when docs do rounds.

Make sure you are eating and hydrating...we don't need 2 patients at your house! Some on here are going through that!

Those infections can be tough...I bet they have him on 4 or 5 days of IV meds! Keep us posted.

Yes get some rest. Sorry to hear about the staph infection. I've been working as a research coordinator doing a flu study and I hear about the MRSA infections all the time. Scary things!!

Kristin I hope you're getting some rest. So sorry about the bleed ... it's scary when it happens. Good they caught the infection before it got too serious. Will be thinking of both of you!

Hi all! I apologize for my delay in responding. We have had all the kids home due to the snow and have been trying to deal with disability.
Hubby is home, getting around pretty well. They banded a few small varices and treated his staph infection. We are now starting physical therapy because his muscles are strong (even though they don't appear to be there) but he has no endurance.
His main complaint has been his umblicalcord hernia. They refuse surgery until his ascites is under control but they can't up his diuretics at this time because of how screwy his electrolytes are. His kidney fuction is better than it has been in the pass so it is a bit confusing. His current MELD is at 19.

So as of now we are taking things like most of us liver disease patients and caregivers do, day by day.

Kristin, Thanks for letting us know how you guys are doing. Unfortunately that hernia situation is normal with abdominal ascites and them not wanting to correct it is normal also. You really need to keep a close eye on that. It's very easy for his intestine to push through the stomach lining and into the herniated area. That's what happened to me. Have you made any progress with the disability issues? Terminal is the key word to use when dealing with those papers. Don't know if his doc's deemed him to be terminally ill but mine did.

Keep dosing him with lactulose and diuretics, Hopefully things will settle down. Is he going through depression? I know I did. It's tough going from healthy and full of life to useless. From people treating you with respect to treating you with sympathy. All those things are normal but difficult to adjust to. Communication is the key. Keep open lines between you and him and talk to him about how he feels. If nothing else have a friend of his come over and spend some guy time with him. That will provide you time to do the same with the gals. If he would like to speak to me even I will be glad to provide you with my e-mail and subsequently a phone number. I been there. He can make it but he has to be willing to go the distance.

Thanks for the update. Yes it is a day to day struggle. The key is that you are still in the arena. Ziff has a great attitude. I hope that your guy reaches out to him. It's hard to sit by. I know I wanted to do everything for Mike as far as fighting and he had to do it. There was no way around it. Thanks so much for the update. I was wondering how you guys were.
