Zinc for HE? Anyone?

Have you ever been RX'd Zinc for hepatic encephalopathy(HE)? It has been RX'd to add for themister per the TXHepa. I do not recall anyone mentioning Zinc, Lactulose, and Xifaxan for HE.

If it helps HE, why is everyone with HE not RX'd Zinc? RX'd , high dose at 3x per day.

@Mama, The Zinc was prescribed by the transplant hepatologist at Mayo as the 3rd RX item for HE. It was 'curious' to me, as no one in my liver group of friends has ever mentioned it for HE. Just Lactulose and Xifaxan. The Zinc is an added prescription. To my mind, if this was a good idea for HE, why isn't everyone with HE taking it. Also, why did they wait a year to put him on Zinc for HE, if it works? Thanks for the reply. Hope to hear good news on Mike and treatment soon. Hugs, themiz

Hi, hope I am not out of line replying. I am pretty new to forum. My hepatologist rxd zinc 200 mg three times a day as an extra support for xifaxan and lactulose when the he symptoms were continuing. Seemed to help, is rx filled at pharm. Hope this is an encouragement for you.

I found out I had ESLD 2006. I was told Zinc Sulfate
was for memory improvement You do not need a prescription , but you do have to ask the pharmacist for it. I took 5 tabs a day . I do not know if it was working or not over the years I gotten tired of all the meds .....At this time I am only taking my HBP meds. Lactulose is giving me bad stomach aches. I was on the list for transplant for about 5 years, then taken off because I stable for so long. Things don't change much I have good days and bad days. I forgot to go to my app. this week . Now I don't know when I'll get around to going we just got a blast of snow and I won't go out in bad weather. Nor do I want anyone on the road for same old_same old. june
