end stage cirhossis

My husband is in end stage cirhossis but has been somewhat stable for the last couple of months.  He was diagnosed in August when he got very ill and had an infection in the hospital which caused him to be intubated.  Since then he was very confused and couldn't walk.  He is currently in a nursing home but is more lucid and is walking with a walker...however, he is very unstable when walking.  Recently he has had blood clots in his legs, but had to stop giving him the blood thinner because now the level is too high (which they were afraid of with the liver disease).   Does anyone know what I can expect next?  I'm afraid his body can't fight anything off and he wants to come home, but I'm not sure I can care for him at home. 

Lynn, you and your husband are certainly in my prayers. You didn't mention, but is he diagnosed with hepatic encep (my mental speller just quit) The reason I ask is the confusion he is having and the state of his liver you have stated sound similar to me. I have it, and a drug called xifaxan and also lactulose have been very helpful in controlling the he symptoms. If you haven't heard anything about this, you might consider asking your doctor.
