Hello. I am the husband of themiz who posts on this board. I'm the sick one who is being well cared for by my poor wife. Thanks to me she is getting poorer by the day. Ahhh, the golden years! Anyway, this board has been a source of great help to her through the last 15 or so months and today, since my HE is down, she suggested that I might like to post. I am not much of a poster. Always the one who's posted about. Still, I would like to express my gratitude to "the board" for being there for her and providing some sort of sane interaction with the human race. God knows that I haven't been most of the time. The HE is not pleasant. So there you have it for now and I'll do my best to respond when I am mentally up to it. Thanks again, themister.

themister, welcome to the forum.

My partner Mike joined a while back, but rarely checks the posts and has never posted. He too knows how important this forum has been for me since october 2010 when I first started posting...a desperate caregiver to a really sick man. He is almost 3 years post transplant now and hopes to be Hep C clear after treatment.

Glad you came to see us!

Welcome themister,

You have a great wife/caretaker. Nice to hear your HE is relatively under control. I look forward to reading your posts.

As your wife has, keep us updated when you can.

hi, i could insert my name to your profile. i am 63, cirrhotic, 2 failed treatments, cleared in 2012. i am now be monitored for hcc, every 6 and looking for signs of liver repair. i just had my afp and ultrasound last week. dr had a big smile on his face, when he told me they were both normal. my afp never got over 36, but 3.7 had him grining.

Hi mister,
Diagnosed with Hep C in 2000, did interferon/ribavirin in 2004 and was undetectable, then had 2 cerebral hemorrhages in early 2005. Liver went south, I had ESLD with a good dose of HE. Had a transplant in July 2009. Was fine for a year, then viral load shot up and did interferon/ribavirin again and have now been undetectable for 28 months. Welcome to HW!

Hello Mister, Your wife has been instrumental to others here while helping you along. A truly wonderful woman, Although I suspect you know that. Glad you decided to come on board and look forward to you posting in the future.

Hey TheMister,

Glad you popped in and welcome to our cozy corner :) I was in the same shoes as themiz, caretaker for ESLD and later transplant for my brother.

I have to say you're a lucky man to have such a wife/caregiver who is so devoted to your well-being, physically and mentally. She somehow finds the time to give advice to folks here on the forum, and for that WE thank YOU, being that you are the reason she is here.

Here's to future eradication of this monster! All the best to you both :)

Welcome to the forums themister, your wife is a great lady and I just replied to her in my thread where I was complaining about some side effects from the Ribavirin and she said you had similar ones with the eyes and the itching.

Its great to see you have the energy and are well enough to post on the forum and we all look forward to seeing you more in the future, your wife has been very helpful to these forums!

themizter,,HI you and seem to be in same canoe i am esld,HE,tipps,acieties,plural infusion,been in coma or deep sleep 4-5 times am now waiting for t/p with a meld 22..can i ask you what your diet consist of.why i ask is because i am a vegetarian mostly i eat eggs and cheese also.My DR. seems to think that my diet is whats been keeping me around although he doesnt like it..im not pushing veggie life style on anyone its very hard .i was just wondering about you nutrition...be well my friend......waitin

Hello waitin on a t/p. Hope you don't have to wait very much longer for t/p. I'll bet you're tired of being sick.

As for my diet I keep salt as low as possible, less than 1500 p/d and don't eat much meat. A nice rib eye about every 2 weeks and the rest of the time I try and stick to the white meats mostly with small portions. Lots of fruits and veggies. Not very much bread. I use protein powder occasionally to keep up my protein intake. I've been exercising lately as I've gained 25 lbs. post TIPS. Still not used to the tire around my middle. My edema stays at bay when I exercise and haven't had ascites yet. I have non-alcoholic cirrhosis. Also I drink a lot of water and juice. I don't take benzos or sleeping pills like Ambiens or antidepressants. For me it's not good for the HE and my meld was 14 two months ago. Very little to no HE these days, I'll take it.

Let me know if I missed anything or you need to know about something else. Hang in there and let us know when you get your transplant...ehh?
