New to the Forums

Hello Fellow Dragon-Slayers,

My name is JustaPoet Janny, or you may call me Poet. I contracted Hep - C, one of a couple of ways. In my teenage tears, I admit to being a wild-child and then in 1978 I had a blood transfusion due to an emergency c-section. I am guessing the former but it does not matter at this point. BTW, I quit the street drugs in 1980 too late, due to my brother passing away at the tender age of 31, I was 21, now 55.

In the late 90's I was on a 6 mo regimen of interferon / ribivirin to no avail. Now I am so blessed to start on solvadi / ribivirn tomorrow. Yayyyyyy ! ;-) I am supposed to do a 12 week plan. I also have cirrhosis and had a liver transplant 7 yrs ago this past Jan. I am hoping to stop the virus which is eating my liver up and live a long and healthy life.

I was SHOCKED to know that in my state (TX, USA) Solvadi cost 30Grand for 1 month supply. Thank God, I have medicare and a grant to pay the 20%. I was told not to take milk thistle which I have religiously for years...maybe it sped up the process ?

In any event, I was to introduce myself as I have been reading your board for a week or so and find the support amazing.

Thank you, Sean. I have been perusing the boards for a couple of weeks. I love the support given here and hope to contribute. As soon as I find my blood test pretreatment, I will post the pertinent labs. I do know that my viral load is just over 1 million. ( for now ) I am really very excited to start the new treatment and am soooooo happy that I can skip the interferon this round. Be well and take care.

I have heard a lot of people who have taken sam-e. I think its just important especially you being a transplant patient to let your doc know. I am not a hep C or transplant patient. I have found this forum very helpful, my issues were related to bile duct blockage.

I know Mama's spouse is doing the treatment. I believe he is 3 years post transplant and is approaching his halfway point of treatment. He was undetectable by week 3 if I remember right. I hope similar success for you.

The bile duct issue was scary for me as I woke up jaundice. The first hep thought I was an alcoholic even though my PCP said otherwise. It took another 3 months but I got another yep to do a MRCP and fro there a stent and have been improving since.
