Wonderful news Dorothy! What happens now? Well...you wait. Once someone goes through the evaluation process, is accepted, and is put on 'the list', all that is left to do is wait. Your husband will get his labs done regularly, and on the basis of those results his MELD may go up or down. I believe with your hubby's MELD of 14-18, his reassessment would be every 3 months. Once his MELD hits above 18, it would be every month. His Creatinine level is the only part of the MELD score related to his kidneys, so depending on what his Bun and INR levels do, his MELD could increase if his Creatinine level rises. There is also the MELD-Na calculator that is used. When it does its computing, a sodium level that is below 125 is set at 125 - and a sodium level that is above 137 is set at 137. It's actually interesting how it all works.
Now it's always possible for his position on the list to change (well actually, it will), so I wouldn't worry about
asking too often where he is on the list - it'll drive ya nuts! And usually, they don't even tell you where he is until he's in the top three or so.
Just try not to stress too much about
'the call'! For a while I would jump every time the phone rang. I had to really work on that because I was driving myself crazy. Lol May I ask where he's listed?
Hang in there! (Try) to have a peaceful day.
