Non alcoholic wine?

Is this ok to drink? It's clear I want to avoid alcohol, but I sure do miss my wine and wouldn't mind an alternative to the wine with alcohol in it. Thoughts?

Non-alcoholic wine, like non-alcoholic beer, has a very small percentage of alcohol.  I can't imagine it tastes as good as real wine so why even bother.  It depends on what issue you are dealing with.  I know some hepatologists allow AIH patients to have a rare glass of wine if, and only if, they are stable.  Former alcoholics, Hep C patients, patients with cirrhosis, etc...should not have any!  My AIH is stable and I don't have cirrhosis but I don't see the need to risk it.  If I did have a flare I would forever blame the occasional drink.  I also only have cough syrup without alcohol.

 

You'll get over the wine thing.  I had just gotten into it when I was diagnosed.  I like to simply drink water and save my calories for chocolate :-)  You have to weigh your risk versus benefit and definitely speak to your doctor.

Thanks for the input, Dany. I try to avoid all and any alcohol now, even the tiniest bit, ever since I found out I had Hep B (and chronic). My doctor, however, did say I could have the occasional here and there.. so if I wanted a glass of wine at a wedding, it would be ok. Granted, I'm trying to stay away for risk of any flare ups as well, especially since mine went active after a LOT of drinkng last year before I knew about it.

By the way, noticed in your sig that you have/had Reynaud's? I had this back in 2000. Mine went away on it's own. I believe it was from a change of environment with my job at the time that cured it. I went on some cream and while it helped, it didn't cure it. Left the cod warehouse to pursue other career and it went away within 3 months!

I agree with Dany, not worth it, trust me. Why even get into the habit if you want to avoid alcohol? You really should stay totally away from it, and anything that would tempt you to it. .

Believe me, when I made the decision not to drink so many years ago, I found I didn't really miss it at all and felt a TON better in the mornings and overall :) Also found I could have just as good a time without it even when friends are imbibing.

Your liver will thank you, and doctors will respect that clean ethanol lab count :)

Some hep doctors are have varying opinions on alcohol. There was a big study that some auto immune hep diseases and bile duct obstruction problems that cause cirrhosis since they can be managed can actually be ok for someone to have like 1 small alcoholic drink. I think it truely depends on the severity of your cirrhosis, the cause etc. I know even though my cirrhosis is not due to alcohol that it is advanced enough, yet compensated very well, so I would not risk it myself.

I am like Mae, since stopping even though it was fun to go out with the guys once a year, I do not miss it at all. I never really drank enough for it to be a problem anyways.

My Raynaud's isn't bad enough for any treatment especially since treatment can lower blood pressure and cause dizziness.  I have enough of that already :-)  It isn't uncommon to have Raynaud's with an autoimmune disease so I think I'm stuck with it.

Mine is only bad when I get chilled in the evenings or if the AC is on too high.  Living in SD makes it nice.  If I lived back in the colder areas of MN (lived there for a few years) or Montreal (where I'm from), it might be more of a problem.  The doc said if my toes don't warm up in 24hrs, then I'd need meds.  I can always get them warmer with fuzzy socks and a blanket :-)
