Just got confusing news about treatment

I am on the triple med tx and rec'd next 4 wks of pegasys/riba last week, called to refill sovaldi and they say I have no refill, tx only 12 wks. I said, I don't think so. Original Rx for riba/interferon was for 24 to 48 wks. Called doc's ofc, his nurse said No, just 12 wks and I said why did I get refill for riba/interferon. I told her doc said I am geno 1 and the hardest to cure so would do 24 wks of tx. What a screwed up deal. Will do 12 wk VL on July 15 so I hope someone besides me is minding the store.

I'm geno 1 and on the triple tx, but was only prescribed 12 weeks (I also had a super high viral load). I'm down to my last 10 days now....at 4 weeks I was <15 detected, 7 & 8 weeks undetected. From what I've read most geno 1's are on 12 week tx's with Sov/Peg/Riba BUT the alternative treatment is 12 weeks Sov and 24 weeks with the other 2. Hi, I m looking at the AASLD HCV Treatment Recommendations.

You are geno 1.
This states you take Peglated Interferon/Riba/Solvaldi, your treatment would be 12 weeks.

The alternative is Solvaldi 12 weeks. Pegylated Interferon/Ribavirin 24 weeks. This alternative is for people with either HCV geno 1a or 1b, and in whom the Q80K polymorphism is not detected before treatment.

Are you to continue the Interferon/Riba? If not, 12 weeks is your recommendation. Hope this helps. Big Hugs

the fda approved triple tx sov/int/rib for 12 weeks for geno 1a or b. that is what insurance will cover.

your 4 week v/l was less than 15, if i remember right. i think with your RVR, that you are definitely in that 90% range.
i see you treated in 07/08 and responded to int/riba, and relapsed after tx. relapsers from int/rib tx, do better on retreatment with triple, than those who are non responders or partial responders to dual tx.

please dont take this as the gospel. run all internet advice by your dr.
i would also ask the dr if you can or should take the extra int/rib. hoping for your best outcome

Thanks for the info, encouragement and hugs, all are needed and appreciated. Just got voicemail from nurse, she said only 12 wks. So, after today, I have 7 days of sovaldi left and should do interferon shot tomorrow and have enough riba (5 per day) for 6 days. I must say, I'm a little overwhelmed at the moment, I have struggled with this tx and feared I wouldn't be able to do 6 mo. and now I don't have to, WOW! I am so thankful. I have had significant hearing loss in the last 3-4 wks and read it could be from riba. That was a big concern for me since I am deaf in my left ear already and did not want to lose my right ear hearing. Some patients recover partial hearing others all loss and some none. Since I'm feeling lucky this minute, I hope I recover all hearing, guess that makes me greedy lol. Geez, I am just almost delirious over only 12 wks. You all have helped me very much and I am so thankful to have found this forum. You are a great blessing. After this news today, I'm ready for fireworks hahaha.

There is news in the press this week, that some treatments in the next year may be reduced to 8 weeks!

These breakthroughs were a long time in coming....but bam bam bam...we are knocking this Hep C OUT.

Let's hope the hearing returns. Some eye problems themister had went away after he finished treatment both times. The Riba seemed to linger in his system awhile, but by 6 months post treatment, he was as well as before. The 2nd treatment he was SVR!! I am happy for you. Keep us posted on your vl test when they come back, Big Hugs

HI, pet lover.  

I am about to start the same treatment you are on (peg, riba and sovaldi), and like  you, am deaf in my left ear so share your concerns about further hearing loss.    How is your hearing doing now in the right ear?  I hope it returned to normal for you.  I start tomorrow, so I'll be hunting up your posts for some insights.  This forum has been a real wealth of information.

I finished meds on July 14, had lab on the 15th. Lab came back undetected for virus but they gave me no number. I haven't noticed much improvement on the hearing front but I've only been off meds 16 days. I began to feel better in a few days after finishing tx but my appetite is still decreased and food just doesn't taste good yet. The last 2 days I've been a little irritable but I'm sure that will go away. My AST was 27 and ALT 17 my bili total is 1.2 and direct 0.3 which is only very slightly high, but they were both WNL on March 4th before I started tx. Next labs in October. Hope to be undetected then, that will be a perfect present for my 63rd birthday! Hope everyone is doing well and on their way to SVR. God bless you all, you are a gift to all on this forum.
