3 months post transplant update.

Hi everyone,
Sorry I haven't posted for a while. But here is an update. Last week we went to Pine mountain, hiking the trails. I got 5 miles in, we planned on only 4 miles, but my son's dog (Jack) decided to chase a deer. My son was not interested in chasing after him. I was not willing to lose such a great dog, so I when after him. One hour later I found him and brought him back to the trail. I was just as tired as poor Jack.
Monday of this week I had my 3 month check up, and my Doctor was impressed on how well I was doing. She has me doing labs every other week, and give me a green light for air travel. Next week we plan to travel to Connecticut fora wedding. Then to Baltimore for labor day weekend.
We also got a cruise planned for Feb 2015. I only have minimum pain on my stomach. The scar itches all the time. But I'm told that's normal, that eventually it will go away. The bile stench has pass though my system. Well that is all the news for now. We are still praying for all that are still going through this horrible disease.

Don't overdo things. You've still got a way to go, before everything is completely healed. Cocoa butter on the incision could help with itching.

Ron, Thank you for checking back in. This is HOPE!! Themister wants to know what "bile stench" is ....and so do I :) Great to hear you are enjoying your life. Big hugs to you and Maggie

I think he's referring to the time it takes for bile to seep through your skin after a transplant. They remove your gall bladder in a transplant and the bile particles make you itch as they are escaping through your pores. My docs gave me ursodiol to help facilitate the process. Not having a sense of smell, I can't say whether there's an odor.

by the way my surgeon explained to me, it was a 6" stench that is place where my bile connects to my new liver. It is supposed to pass through me before 3 months post transplant. I was supposed to watch for it, but I never saw it. My doctor ordered an x-Ray to see if it had passed. It was not seen it the x-Ray, so it left without me knowing. If it was still there she would have to perform an EGD and fish it out.

I had a stent in my bile duct, 2 4 in ch ones. I did not know that one of them had passed.

Either I never had one, or wasn't told about it.

When I saw stench, I thought it was about smell, not a stent.
