Oral Lichens Plakia and on Hep C treatment.

Hello, I am new. I was diagnosed the Hepatitis C in 2000. I have not had a normal lab since. I started Sovaldi July 30 this year. My first lab was August 14 and every was normal. The RNA went from 9,000,000 to 54. I

Before I started this medical therapy I got lichen plackia, a painful gum disease that is common with Hepatitis C. Has any body else who has been cured of Hepatitis C had success with getting rid a lichen plackia.

Carla, Welcome to the forum. WE have many members here with varied stories of their live with Hep C...some who have had the virus over 40 years! It is a tricky one. And there are many who have been or are currently treating with Sovaldi and several other drug...it varies with the specific genotype of the virus they have, A,B, C etc.

Some have had skin problems of several kinds, but I don't recall anyone with this gum disease. My partner, Mike has been through a lot and had had all kinds of skin problems and mouth sores all from Hep C and various combinations of meds over time. He is post liver transplant, and recently had a successful treatment with Sovaldi and Olysio. So far go good here.

I hope your mouth situation clears up. I think lichens planus (the same?) is an autoimmune disorder and chronic...it sticks around and has flare ups but does not go away.

Hi Carlula,

My husband has Lichen Planus of the mouth and he uses Dexamethasone 0.5mg/ML oral rinse 4 times daily along with Fluocinonide .05% mouth gel 4 times daily. Both prescriptions. It has worked wonders on him. He also did the last treatment for Hep C but unfortunately it didn't work for him. Lichen planus can rear it's ugly head at anytime especially if you are under stress or you have diabetes and it's not being controlled. It is also a by product of Hep C...about 10 percent of patient with Hep C get it. This is what we have been told....
