I love playing guinea pig for the students. At Mount Sinai, there was barely a time when a physician visited me that was not followed by a gaggle of med student ducklings following behind.
And what was very, very cool was that in any given group of students, it appeared that there were generally more women than men, and their ethnicity was all over the map. There would be one white young woman, and then the rest were every color of the rainbow. It was totally, totally awesome. I felt like finally, perhaps medical schools were finding the best candidates, and not just the best white/asian candidates.
Really the entire place was a microcosm of the entire world's ethnicities. From the cleaners to the top hepatologists, every race, creed and color was equally represented. I love New York City!! We totally rock.
I hope your medical journey towards a cure is fast and pain free.
