Disability Timeline?

When I was approved I couldn't even tell you my name let alone spell my name. I was driven to SS office and my family showed them how bad it was. Scared the daylights out of that woman so I'm told (Can't remember the incident). I applied and was approved several months later. If his doctors can put it in writing that his "condition is terminal". The approval process will go quickly. A few folks have had to get attorneys to get the benefits that they paid years into. Without getting political it is easier for a pregnant illegal to get benefits than a life long tax payer here. I've threatened to leave and come back through the open border disguised as a the Ayatollahs daughter but found out recently she's already here. Ten kids and 3 baby daddy. Said she's going to college, Arts major wouldn't you know. Ahhhh, The checks just keep rolling in.

I think your husband has LTD, right? So you want to check that out, and how long it will last. At some point, your husband may need to move to SSD. Some are 12 months disability and you need to move into SSD. Hopefully, with LTD, you have time to work through the SSD system.

Also, check into your husband's health insurance when he no longer works due to disability. He may not ever return to work, so plan on the worst case. He may work again, but never do that same job description.... so this needs to be considered in your planning. Will your job support you, and what do you need to do with the house, the toys.

Check into "your" FMLA and see how long you have, and if you can insure him for transplant, should he become without insurance in some worst case transition.

Themister applied for SSD in 2010, after a gastric bleed. He worked 5 years with cirrhosis diagnosed, and worked through his first, brutal Hep C treatment. He missed a lot of time, but he was able to keep the business running. We closed it in 2010, right after the gastric bleed.

He downloaded forms from the SSA website, filled them out with all of his info, and on the last page, as I recall...it asked if this condition was terminal and expected to end in death. It was, and it is. A transplant, if we luck out, may change that. But until he has one, he is terminally ill.

Themister worked 40 years, was 5 years short of his planned retirement goal. We had just moved into a home he built and we closed the loan the same month as his gastric bleed. He got a phone call from someone at SSA very soon, a nice guy who said themister would be approved on an expedited case, which he was within a few months. I think it was something like 6 months until he got his first check, but everyone is different. It was 2 years wait for Medicare, under the disability rule.
