For a first degree relative, how much of a match must there be? I am an O. My son's blood type is currently unknown. I have to call his pediatrician tomorrow.
He has really given me a hard way to go over the last few years. But through it all, I knew and his dad knew, that he was a loving, thoughtful son.
My meld is up to 15 now, and so I felt it was time to speak to him about donating part of his liver. He is 19, and away at college. He and I talked about it a year or two ago, but it was more of a hypothetical situation at that time.
Anyway, as expected, I barely got the words out of my mouth when he interrupted me to say that there was not even an issue - of course he would donate part of his liver to me. And could we wrap up the conversation, as he had friends visiting and he had to go. : ) He told me to call him when I wanted him to travel home for the prep and operation. snort.
So, how matchy-matchy do he and I need to be?
