Hi, I'm new to this forum. Reading some of the posts on here today has made me realise I need to do something about my alcohol problem. 2 of my friends noticed over the last few days that my eyes were turning yellow. Ever since getting divorced, being made redundant (but working out my notice period at home on sick leave with stress), my alcohol consumption has severely risen. This has been since October but I was a heavy drinker prior to this. I have had treatment before but fell off the wagon.
I now have a doctors apt next Wednesday where I will discuss this with him.
Struggling at the moment as this is my first day sober (so far). Just need advice and support really. Like how serious is it if I have the yellow eyes?

First, Welcome to the Hep forum! We are those with liver disease, and those who love them. You have not been dx with liver disease, but yellow eyes are not a good sign.

I am glad to hear you are addressing your alcohol use. There is a site I suggest to those who want support while dealing with addictions. www.soberrecovery.com . There is also a support group there for the family and friends of alcoholics or addicts. I hope you find some support going through the same thing with recovery. I think you have been here before, so you likely know about AA and other recovery groups. Big step today, congrats for taking it!

I would suggest getting an appointment for a complete physical. Find out how your labs look. If you do have liver troubles, ask for a referral to a hepatologist. They are the specialists that know all things liver. Again, welcome. Big Hugs

Your dr appt will reveal the condition of your liver. If your eyes are yellow, your liver is struggling to function.

Try not to stress yourself. There are treatments and cures for most of the common causes of liver disease .

If your liver is not damaged, and there is no underlying cause,
Then it is up to you.

I had to quit drinking in 1991 because my eyes turned yellow. My dr appt revealed moderate liver damage. That was the end of my party days. Part of my tx was dealing with my depression and anxiety. It was the reason I self medicated.

No need in worrying obsessively. If you have a problem drinking don't make the mistake of covering it up with alcohol. For that matter any problem you may have, be it psychical or mental the alcohol will not solve the issue ultimately. Good for you that your seeking help now. Everything else will fall back into place once you've learned to live sober. You obviously need no lectures, If you want it bad enough. You'll stop.
