liver regeneration with cirrhosis

Holy....

I hve been waiting and waiting for someone to have this type of good anecdotal good news.

Mike was F3 before treatment, almost 3 years post transplant (January 2014). He was treated March - May 2014.

No testing since then...neither fibroscan or biopsy....I am so anxious for his liver to be better. When he is between pancreatitis episodes his AST/ALTs have been in the teens...so that is a really good sign too.

Since has has had a couple of rejection episodes I am pretty certain they will do another biopsy this year. Though I wish they'd be happy with a fibroscan.

I am so happy for you and for your news.

First...I am thrilled you have a normal liver...but, how can this be?

I know you are following all of the trials and are very knowlegable about Hep C trials and treatments. You are my "go to guy" when something new is happening with treatments and clinical trials.

But, I am skeptical on Hep C cirrhosis reversal. Is there anything published (peer reviewed) regarding Hep C treatment and cirrhosis reversal?

Are you making history?

Questions: Tell me if you had a biopsy in 2012 that diagnosed cirrhosis, or a fibroscan. And tell me the grade and stage of cirrhosis, and if you were compensated or decompensated. I wonder if your first test was wrong? Do you have things like ascites, varices, HE, edema, enlarged spleen, normal MELD and LFT. Were you ever on a transplant list?

"Liver damage done by cirrhosis can't be undone".

"But if liver cirrhosis is diagnosis early and the cause is treated, further damage can be limited. As cirrhosis progresses, more and more scar tissue forms, making it difficult for the liver to function (decompensated cirrhosis ). Advanced cirrhosis is life threatening.

Themister has decompensated cirrhosis and is on a transplant list. He had Hep C, undetected since Aug 2011, SVR24 July 2012. He just continues to decline.

Did the hepa' say what your follow-up care includes now that you have a normal liver? So very happy for you. Big Hugs

    i had compensated cirrhosis (stage 4).

after i cleared hep c, my Gi dr reffered me to kaisers hepatology and transplant center.  i wanted to treat my MS, with a monoclonal antibody, definately not liver friendly.  my gi said go ahead and treat and i will follow your labs. i wanted to be sure, so i got a refferal to the experts.

what a world of difference. in 45 minutes i had a new treatment plan.

she said;

1. we need to do a fibroscan

2. you have had  hep A, B, AND C.

3.you have lost your immunity to hep b.

4. so no tx till you reaquire hbsab, or treatment could restart hep b.

5. your liver is always regenerating

6.continue hcc surveilance for 3 years.

7. she is leaving my referal open, so i can email ?s or make appts.

hi everyone,

  i had my yearly hcc surveillance.  i asked for a full report on my liver.

to cross check the fibroscan that was normal.

  the ultrasound was NORMAL. the surface of my liver is smooth.

  im thrilled to report this.

i also have hcv 3 and cirrhosis. i dont believe decompensated is incurable.
but im afraid of relapse due to the fibrosis reversing. ya know, melting, dissoling etc.
what genotype do,--- not--- , DID you have :)?

My hepatologist says "interferon is known to enhance reversal.
And I've had my share of interferon, about seven years worth. It's done a number on my head. Add that to my bipolar and ADHD diagnosies, and it's a wonder I can think.

In all my reading for many years on many forums, most hepatologist believe that the liver if compensated will heal to varying degrees. If the lover is developing some hardening(collagen), those areas will not regenerate. My hepa uses the frase, liver remodeling. I have one long band of hardening.
So my Fibroscan shows f0-f1.
