Hello Everyone.
I was DX with mild-moderate alcoholic hepatitis 24 days ago. I am looking to hear from people who have been through this or have experience with recovery.
I am eating better, but my appetite is still not back to normal. I have a quesy stomach many days and even experience a day of bad nausea from time to time. It's been a bit over 3 weeks since diagnosis. Shouldn't I be past the nausea stage and feeling like my old self again? How long does it take for symptoms to subside? How long for full recovery? Should I be concerned?
Thank you all in advance!!

Hi June, Welcome to the Hep forum. I am not well versed in alcoholic hepatitis, but wanted to welcome you while we wait for someone to share their experience with you. We have members with all types of liver disease, as well as those who love them.
My husband is the one in our home with a sick liver. He had Hep C that damaged his liver and now is on the transplant list. Themister was dx with liver disease 10 years ago.
I think I would give your hepatologist a call and see if you are recovering as they would expect at this point.
I do hope you start feeling better soon. Again, you are welcome here. Big Hugs

I thought I would add a link to Ziff's post about
his journey with alcoholic liver disease. Big Hugs

junegirl I can only tell you of my experience with my mom. My mom was such an alcoholic that she left me and my sister at a babysitters house and never came back (I was 4 and sis was 5). So we were in foster homes all the time and that was NO fun at all. When I was 18 and pregnant my Dad tracked her down (they hadn't been together for years). He asked me would I like to see her and I said YES!!! I couldn't believe I would see my Mom again. BUT my Dad warned me and said your Mom is very very sick. He said she does not look like you remember her at all. He told me she was still drinking and he took me to the bar that she practically lived at in NY. It was 10:00 in the morning. There were 2 woman sitting there drinking. I didnt know which one was my Mom. I went up to the wrong one and said are you Marilyn and she pointed and said no she is. I couldn't believe my eyes. My Dad had married her cause he thought she looked like Marilyn Monroe. It was nothing like that at all you could clearly see she did not take care of herself at all. She was blown up like a balloon and looked sickly. So I went over to her and said "do you know who I am?" She said Sharon (my sis) and I said no am Linda. We both cried ect.. Well after we got through that she said have a beer and kept repeating it. I said no mom I am pregnant. I was about
3 months. Anyway noon came around I said "Mom let go to get something to eat" she said "oh no I can eat I get very sick if I eat". I begged her and she finally said ok but you probably wouldn't like the results if I eat. She forced herself to eat for me (I think) but with one bite of pizza she vomited all over the floor. She lived in a bad neighborhood and her boyfriend was also a alcoholic and sometimes he wouldn't make it up the steps to get home and sleep in the street where the curb was. When I went up to her apartment she had no food in the fridge and there wasn't even a cracker in the house. No food at all there! I came every once in a while to visit with her cause she was my mom and I loved her so much. I was also a alcoholic but didn't know it at the time. I didnt go to see her much because I did not drink while I was pregnant and she would beg me to drink with her. Anyway When I was 8 1/2 months pregnant I went to visit her at the bar of course. She practically lived there. Well I asked for her to the bartender and told him who I was ect.... He had this look on his face and could barely talk and said you need to get the next bus outside and go to the hospital. Well I went and they found her records and all and a dr had told me that she had died. He said she died from "Alcoholic Hepatitis". He said she was yellow and all her organs were just burnt that there was nothing left. She was only 37 years old. I was devastated and couldn't wait to have my baby cause I wanted a drink. Well as for me I drank for 15 years I had started when I was 12 and stopped when I was 27. I just knew that I would be dead also at a young age and decided that my daughter and myself wanted to live a bitmore.Andnot wind up like my mom. I have been sober since then and I am now 58. Well 14 years ago I found out I had Hepatitis C. I don't think the drinking had anything to do with getting the Hepatitis and to this day I don't know how I got it. If I would have gone on the way I was I am convinced no doubt about
it I would be dead by now.My daughter is now 38 and I would have missed her growing up and I also have 3 grandkids. So I hope you get help for your problem. As far as "shouldn't I be past the nausea phase and being back to my normal your old self" well that depends on how much damage you did to yourself and organs. As far as the "full recovery" that's up to you. You need to get into a program such as AA. That's the only way I could have done it. And YES you should be very concerned!! PLease get the help you need. This is NOT a joke. It is deadly! Can I ask how old you are? Please take care of yourself and hang around here there are some good people here that can also help you. I wish you the best!!
