At Mike's 5 years post liver transplant appointment at UMiami/Jackson Transplant Center I teased his Hepatologist....with the new Hep C treatments and excellent cure rates a good bit of their TP case loads may disappear...I said joking around.
Not so fast, he said. With the obesity problem in the US, we will see an increasing need for transplantation for those with Non Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease. Those with diabetes are especially at risk of damage to their liver. The meds they take for that syndrome are hard on the liver too.
Interesting information:
www.clevelandclinicmeded.com/medicalpubs/diseasemanagement/hepatology/nonalcoholic-fatty-liver-disease/Those of us who have been around for a few years know that there are many ways to damage a liver, but once fibrosis and cirrhosis sets in, the symptoms are bad...and pretty similar. We haven't heard from anyone with this diagnosis in a while. Are you lurking? We'd like to hear from you.
