Hi everyone, I’m newly diagnosed with Hepatitis B. I’ve been reading and reading and I’m not quite sure I understand the ins and outs of the AST/ALT blood tests and other blood tests.
My doctor has ordered a hepatic function panel and a PT/INR blood tests. She said this will monitor the disease and alert her if my acute Hep B becomes chronic Hep B.
Current labs were
AST 695 and
ALT 628
But when I looked at the CDC site, I should be testing for antibodies, correct? And probably nor for awhile?
My symptoms started about March 1. I’m still symptomatic, ugh.

welcome to the forum. but sorry you had to find us..

yes, you will be testing for antibodies at about 6 months after your projected onset. your doc will be looking for core antibodies to become positive. this is the test that shows your infection has resolved. 95% of acute infections resolve by your own ammune system. you will then acquire the surface antibodies, which will protect you from re infection.

Thank you, I have been nauseated for quite some time. I'm losing weight, which I guess is a good thing, but my therapist is concerned. Is there something I can take/do to stop this constant nausea. it never seems to let up and it tends to increase after I eat. I've been trying to stay away from any fats (I don't have a gall bladder anymore) any other advice? I am so weak, and exhausted. My therapist thinks I should take some time off work and rest. I don't know if that would help. I wake up nauseated.

hopefully your symptoms, are a strong immune response..

i developed hep b, along with a few friends, in the "60s".
one person was hospitalised, and 3 others were asymptomatic.
We all passed the virus...

the nausea will pass.. my hep doc ordered Zofran(4mg). there are many home remedies that may help also; ginger. soda crackers etc..

how did your liver function tests,inr/pt, billirubin, ast/alt come out??

I got the labs today

PT / INR was fine except
bilirubin was elevated at 0.7

Alk Phos 297 down from 317
AST 902 up from 695
ALT 699 up from 628


They didn't retest my Lipase levels. But the nurse told me the this was the reason for my flu- like symptoms. It was 97. Previous labs were 11 days ago

I have been sick for 2 months. Im seeing my family doctor tomorrow.

let us know how your gp visit goes.

your billirubin at .7 is normal. unless they are measuring direct billirubin.

its a waiting game now. try to relax, the odds on in your favor..

You are correct, it was bilirubin direct. The total bilirubin was within lnormal limits. Don't know the difference though

My 1 year old has an ear infection. I asked the pharmacist for over the counter nausea meds when I went to pick up his antibiotics. He said there is nothing. Lol. I said ginger? He told me to get a prescription for nausea meds. wow.

I am seeing a different general practitioner tomorrow. He is a friend of my therapist. He works for a larger practice and told my therapist he could definitely help me. If nothing more than answer questions and get me in to see a specialist.

while your waiting for answers, ask questions on transmission to others.

you are contagious until "hbsag" turns negative.

I definitely asked that already. I couldn't understand how I was infected. Which is why I was so devastated. We have been together for years and have a 20 month old.
