Hello everyone.
It's been a long time since I have posted. I do read posts from time to time.
Dougie had six month labs and ultra sound last week. Everything (almost) is in NORMAL range! Exception is platelets, at 133 (140 is low normal for our lab) and alkaline phosphatase, at 120 (high normal is 117 for our lab). Ultrasound stable.
Dougie has been doing very well, and the recent labs reflect that. I am thankful every day that he chooses to take care of himself and stay sober.
For forum members that are not familiar with our story, Dougie was diagnosed with cirrhosis due to alcoholism in September 2010. He was very very ill then, unable to feed himself, sleeping all the time or up in the middle of the night, frequent bloody noses that would not stop, gagging, jaundiced, ugh. It was awful. His doctor's advice was to stop drinking. He joined a program with our health care provider and over these years he has done well overall. He has had slips and a relapse in 2013...he struggled for a year after that. Since May 2014 he has been doing very well.
I am doing well too. Working a lot...that is mostly okay. Trying to find balance between work and home, always my struggle. I am still struggling with weight loss and I am determined to put myself and my health first this year! Still suffering from vertigo from time to time. Mostly just trying to go with the flow when that happens.
I will try to be back on and post a bit more when there are newcomers or questions about liver issues related to alcohol.
Wishing everyone health in 2017.
Big Hugs,
Emma
