Hi connie,Every hepatologist will tell a cirrhotic patient no green Tea. Some studies do reveal green tea can be harmfull to liver because of a chemical found in.I'm not really surprised your Dr. says Ok but I also know if she were a Hepatoloagist & you did not have cancer & If you had cirrhosis they would tell you no. Studies done here in Canada have shown the dangers of green tea & campaign heavily against it & it is always in the news here. In fact FDA here & in Europe want it banned. It hasn't gotten that far yet tho. St johns wart i don't know about
it seems to be contraversy so I avoid it all together. Milk Thistle is heavily recommended . They have found in cirrhosis it slows progression because in cirrhosis it actually plays a large part in helping to rid the body of toxins. It apparantly has a lot of benifits for the liver. from what the hepatologist say about
milk thistle & the liver I have no doubt it cleared that person of hepC . they say it has kept me alive longer .Maybe St. johns Wart doesn't have safe values with hep c the same way green tea is harmfull to cirrhosis. But regardless bottom line folks, Ask YOUR HEPATOLOGIST! Always before using anything!!!! They also told me to drink more than 2 cups of coffee per day to help prevent liver cancer. Maybe because you already have cancer it works the opposite of what it would for cirrhosis. apparantly it
green tea is good for liver cancer.?Anyway with my cirrhosis I will definately heed The advice not to use green tea & other herbs because I don't want to progress faster than I already am. My thoughts & prayers are with you all. later.....
Please everyone check everything with your hepatologist before taking anything!
