Hep B onset after liver transplant

sorry to hear this news. My situation is different. I had a hep b exposure many years ago, and my immune system knocked it out. Years later I got cirrhosis from hep c and alcohol. I had to treat the hep c.
I was given the hep b injections, which did not work. I cleared the virus without much trouble. A year later, I needed treatment for MS, which involves immune suppressants. Since I had the hep b exposure years ago, I was told hep b exposures can be reactivated by immuno suppressants. I was also given a anti viral(interferon) post treatment.

Your dr can test family members, and advise on whether your husband is contagious. The dr will keep your family as safe as possible. Hopefully some of the old gang will chime in here.

Hi, ML here. I remember your story. Mike was May 1, 2011 for his transplant. He has done well, liver wise, but he is looking for a record of the most surgeries post TP NOT liver related. 2 hernias, 5 ortho surgeries (3 shoulders, an elbow, and major back surgery, and an aortic valve replacement. But he is good liver wise. Oh and radiation for skin cancers.

He is down to .5 mg of prograf daily, and at 10 years his doc says he will try him with NO antirejection meds.
But no Hep B, and that is not my expertise.

Mike had Hep C, and we lived with it our entire relationship. The transmission is similar...blood, but Hep B is also in semen and other bodily fluids...so easier to catch. WE have always had twin sinks, used one toilet each, separate bars of soap, 2 different sets of towels done in two separate washes, his white, always the last load done with a strong bleach (though I don't know if that helps.) We kissed and had lots of sex, but I would think that that would need some thinking through for you guys. We have been diligent about blood...keep surgical gloves in each bathroom, even in the car, are VERY careful, even now, though he his Hep C free for 3 years, just in case the learn something in the next years, for first aid. I would never tend to an injury with blood gloveless. On my own guy. I think you need to have some protocols like that for the kiddos also.

I am sorry to hear about all this. What a crazy world we live in.

Though this is a trial for you both, the choice of NOT having a transplant at that time is not an option. An organ with a glitch was better than losing a husband and father way too soon.
